Probably not what allot of 1322 or 2289 owners want to hear, but here goes, I've had a 2240 for several years and have done the usual mods, trigger, 14.5" barrel, steel Breech, Hawke variable scope, shoulder stock, and I've enjoyed the 2240 carbine version allot, the mods increased the standard velocity considerably and along with it the foot pounds of energy, it's a great plinking gun and is right on the edge of being a good short range small game hunting gun, the inherent accuracy in these series of Crosman pistols is remarkable considering their price point, which is why I decided to purchase the 2289 Drifter pistol/carbine kit.
I wanted a compact, lightweight, accurate, quiet, survival carbine that would work well as a recreational arm as well as a protein foraging gun in case the world as I know it ceased to function for a while that didn't depend on any outside support, I have other air rifles that shoot faster, further, and hit harder, but they are also heavier, and really too pretty to drag i to the woods unless it's an emergency, I also have a beautiful vintage Sheridan Blue Streak pneumatic rifle that's an excellent stand alone small game getter, but like they say "two is one and one is none", hence the 2289 made sense at the time.
So, where am I going with this post, have a little patients, I'm coming to it, when I ordered it I fully intended to give it the same mod treatment that I gave my 2240, but after receiving it and shooting it for about all of those ideas left my head, the first thing that changed everything for me was that this Drifter 2289 pistol/carbine was allot of work, it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as the 2240 was, and in my mind not worth my time and money to trick it out, especially knowing that it the end it would certainly function and shoot better, it would be more powerful, and with a good scope it would be much more accurate, but it would still be allot of work to shoot and certainly not any more enjoyable to play with.
I expressed my lack of interest in the 2289 on other forums and I've had friends offer to buy it from me, I refused to sell it for a few reasons, one, it still functions, it is accurate, and it will still make a decent foraging gun, two, it is lightweight and handy to have around in case thing go to crap, and it would make a good barter piece in a pinch, and finally I wouldn't feel that great about saddling one of my friends with something they wouldn't enjoy any more than I have.
And it's not like I didn't try to like it, I even got a bigger pump handle for it thinking it would be easier or more comfortable to pump, it helped, but not enough.
