.22cal 18gr Pellet Comparison Test for 3 Brands

Hello everyone,

I received my order of new 18gr pellets and will now run several shooting test to compare all three Brands. I will test each pellet at 10-meters and then at 25-yards and shoot them straight out of the Tin. After zeroing the scope on a separate target and filling the rifle to 3,000psi, I will shoot eight (8) times at my “Pellet Comparison Second Target” paper target. I will repeat this procedure for every test at both 10-Meters and 25-Yards. The three “open” rings are 1/4", ½" and 3/4" and the Black Dot Bull is 1/8".

The three pellets/brands are:
1) JSB Jumbo Heavy, .22 cal 18.13gr
2) H&N Baracuda 18, .22 cal 18.13gr
3) JTS Dead Center Precision, .22 cal 18.13gr

Below are the results for the 10-Meter Test and I will post the 25-Yard Test results later. As you can see, the JTS is just a hair better in the grouping. It will be interesting to see the 25-yard results.

Hello everyone,

OK attached are the results for the 25-Yard Comparison Test and I am more than surprised. I did figure that the JTS would be the Top Shooter, but completely shocked with the other two Brands. I really thought that the H&N would be almost too close to tell, but that was not the case. The H&N only shot 4 MOA’s out of eight? And JSB put two POI’s outside of the 3/4" ring and only had 3 MOA’s. Cannot blame it on the rifle because it did shoot 7 out of 8 MOA’s with the JTS pellets and that “one” could be blamed on me.

I have one more test to try and I might add it here later on.

Hope this will be of some help to the Forum members.

Interesting, and coincidental. I just ran the same three pellets for comparison in their .25 caliber versions. I ran them at 25yds and 38yds. My results were same as yours out of my Airacuda Std. with the JTS just slightly better than the other two.
Hello @BBGunn

Very interesting 😛 . If you saved your targets, how close are your results to mine?

I am impressed with the JTS at this point, still have a lot of shooting to do with them.

Looking good so far for JTS, @ThomasT . I expect big things out of my RAW with the 20 grainers.
Hello @rsfrid

At 10-meters they are all very close, but the JTS really shines out at 25-Yards. To me that is a big improvement over the other two brands. I did some more shooting on other paper to verify what I shot on the "Test Targets" and saw the same results which made me happy. However the JSB, on the other paper, had the same flyers and poor results.

Hope you keep your results and share them here on the Forum.

If you have the space you might want to test even further away. 25 yards is probably the average distance I shoot squirrels but I can test at 35 yards by shooting from my side porch, I found JSB 18s and H&N Baracuda Match 21 grain were equal at 25 yards but the H&N were more accurate at 35. But since you've already found the JTS were most accurate at two distances that will probably continue. I'd probably test at 50 if I had the space.

Hello @JimD

Yes I can shoot out to 85 yards and will set up at 50 tomorrow. I shot more this evening with the 14.3 just to compare with the 18's and shot one card MOA, so this rifle likes a variety of pellets.

I recently shot these three 18 grainers from my Weihrauch HW100S. The JTS were nearly identical to the JSB in accuracy with the H&N doing poorly from my rifle. It has done well with H&N Baracuda Match 21 grain but poorly with the Baracuda Hunter Hollowpoints. It did well with the other JTS pellet tested, the 21.5 Semi-dome.
