Tuning .22cal Crown MKII questions

I'm looking at buying a new Crown MKII in .22cal with the 500mm liner. Does this one shoot the 18gr and 25gr JSB pellets equally as well, or does it prefer one over the other? Is it possible to have a tune that is around 500fps on the bottom end that is still accurate? I would normally shoot it in the 850-900fps range, but I may need a quiet and less powerful setting in certain situations. Would I be able to adjust the power wheel and transfer port to achieve this without touching the reg?

Well, I dont have a mkii. But my Mk1 was a little challenging to dial in at both low and high speeds. By that, I mean it was difficult to make a tune that was extremely good, but that was also capable of high and low speeds through dial adjustment. Mine is a little hot, so I recon I could have brought power down a bit and could have gotten lower speeds down low. Currently something like 630fps with 18gr jsb, and 930 up top with ported 380mm barrel.

I also have the new 500mm barrel, and it should shoot both pellets equally well. (for heavier stuff, I shoot slugs) I can't attest to 500fps accuracy. I think that will depend on tune. But mine at 600 is a laser.

But from what I see, most Crown owners are still in the high 700fps with power and port wheels turned all the way down.

My Crown originally came with a 600 MM barrel. I thought it was too long, so I replaced it with a 380MM barrel. It shoots 18.1 gr pellets superbly as well as 25.4 gr KO slugs. Pellets shoot around 900 fps and slugs 840. I also installed a Huma dual transfer port and pin probe. Regulator is set at 150 bar. I'm quite satisfied with the results. Tuning it down to lower velocities is no problem. Just change the transfer port setting and/or the hammer spring tension. If you don't have a chronograph, get one.

You can absolutely do that! With TP at low it can be done near 550fps while still at 800-900 fps when you turn the TP to medium and HA to higher. Key is a little higher reg pressure. Mine is set at 140 and it can switch between 12.5 grain slugs and 7.9 grain pellets with a twist of 2 dials. It’s unbelievably versatile, no other gun comes even close to the crow/Dreamline in repeatable power adjustability.

+1 on this. The Transfer Port setting is magic if you really want a tune that can do both high speeds and low ones. Using the 18.13 grain JSBs, my 500mm Crown Mk2 in .22 does 903 FPS with the Power Wheel set at 3 and the TP on Medium. Changing the TP to Low drops speeds below 600 FPS. My reg is set at 145.

Thanks for the replys gentlemen. I would be primarily tuning for accuracy on the top end in the 850-900fps range and if I can get minute-of-rat around 500fps at 20-25 yards I will be happy. Should the .22cal tuning be with the transfer port opened up all the way or on the medium setting?

For me, the Medium setting works very well with the .22. For my .30 cal i do use high.
