Tuning .25 Cal FX Maverick slug tune with Slug power kit installed

That velocity is fine , might even be too fast. If it's not broke don't fix it. Just enjoy shooting and try some different slugs for the best accuracy. Some .30 cal guys should be showing up and can give you some pointers. Not sure if you need a slug liner also. I wouldn't start tuning it if it's set up alread by a knowledgeable tuner .

Mavericks come with the slug liner, but not the faster twist one, stock is 1:24, the Heavy, and why in the H they call it that is beyond me, is 1:16 if memory serves.

I think the heavy comes from heavier grain slugs. I've been thinking about getting heavy slug liner for my .22 mav. and trying some Altaros .

I haven't had much luck with standard superior liner and slugs . The FX hybrids have done the best so far.

Enjoy your trip down the rabbit hole, be sure to stay hydrated and take snacks.

There are plenty of guys using slugs with success. Hybrids already group under a dime at 50. But there are plenty of failures out there also. Sounds like it didn't go so well for you . If you have any " don't do this " I'm willing to listen. One nice thing about FX barrel system is $110 liner vs $300+ with other companies.

Some win the slug lottery, others well, not so much. I'm to the point that I've gone down that hole and have gotten out. I MAY get another Maverick just to screw around with slugs, I'm not messing with my .25VP or my .22 compact (sucks for slugs bigly). The VP reaches out to 120+ yards quite well now and my .22 is/was my project gun, got it all repaired and it's boringly reliable to poke tight holes with almost any pellet I've put through it. I have the numbers for the Belleville washer stacks to get as much power as needed to sling whatever I want.

What kind of pressures is ur vp reg set at and ammo are u getting to go 120yds? Just curious. Im shooting 25gr slugs and it flies all over the place at 75yrds

138 bar, slug probe, not a pin probe, slug port, CF sleeve, I think it's 1025fps with 26gr haven't tested it recently but that's what my FX record shows. SD of 6.4fps. The key is not one air molecule more than necessary. I've matched the Bellevilles so they are all the same, about .53mm average to get the pressure, your mileage may vary, I had to buy several packs of them to get that, measuring on the very edge, gave them a light polish on the surfaces that touch and used a very light coat of Mobile 1 light weight to lubricate. I can probably drop the fps down and be fine. I was shooting 100 yards with my Maverick compact heavy liner/carbon sleeve, 22gr hybrids, I think it has a .25 hammer/spring/weight in it, it started life as a .25 sniper and I never changed it. getting ground squirrels. The key is to find the max speed by adjusting the pressure and hammer micro, then backing it off.
