25 cal Hades queston

I bought a Hatsun Jet11 pistol, 25 cal to carry in my pack when I bow hunt. After a little work on it, it shoots incredibly well at 15 to 20 yards, one ragged hole most of the time. It shoots Hades and Fx 34 grains about the same. the 34 grains a a touch quieter than the Hayes with a Donny Fl on the front. FPS at 15 feet is approximatly 560 FPS. Is this fast enough to cause the Hades to expand in a squirrel? If not I will shoot the 34's, they have a bit more KE than Hades. Any help would be appreciated.

The Hades .25 do expand at the segments but it takes some velocity. Probably north of 50 fpe. I find the Hades 26 grain shoot of course a good bit faster than the JSB 34 at the same tune and shoot higher than the 34s, not quite .5 inches, at 40 yards. At my usual 30 yards sight in the Hades are still higher but not enough to cause a miss. Inside 30 yards I find the Hades just dandy, beyond that I prefer the 34s.

Here is a .22 Hades fired at 900fps I recovered from a gray squirrel shot at 30 yards (top) compared to an unfired pellet (bottom):

Per the picture, not much expansion to speak of.

Placement was to the chest following the path shown by the tape measure, through about 4.5in of hide, muscle, and soft tissue.

I've taken 100s of squirrels with Hades (or Atomics) at around 900fps. Mostly with 22, but some with 25. I inspect the pellets every chance I get, but it is not often since most do pass through. I agree with @nervoustrig that expansion is much less than you might expect. It largely depends on where you hit them. I typically see 22 expansion to around .240-.250.

Thing is, that little bit of expansion makes a huge difference compared to regular domes. The Hades tends to anchor them most of the time. Certainly with headshots, but also with body shots. They give you a margin of error where if you make a bad shot and miss the vitals a bit, it knocks the squirrel down for long enough to get that follow up shot. Same shot with a dome and the squirrel would have enough time to run up a tree or under a log pile, etc.

It's all I hunt with these days (when using an airgun). They are proven performers, even if you don't get the dramatic expansion like the guys on youtube get when shooting down into a water bucket
