25 caliber Hades vs Poly Mags

Hello everyone, I had a little time on my hands and wanted to see how the 25 caliber Poly Mag at 26 gr compared to the 25 caliber Hades at 26.54 gr. I used my Hatsan 25 caliber 135 with specially tuned gas ram and barrel to do the test. This is my hunting rifle so it's not pretty but it's accurate, powerful, and low recoil . I have pictures because that says more than I can. This is the way I test to see if what I want to hunt with is going to pass the test. I want a quick kill, its' ethical and I cant stand my game getting away only to die a slow death. Hopefully we can see which pellet has the advantage? At 50 yards I have good grouping with both so that can be taken out of this test. The cost factor is Hades are about 8 cents and Poly Mag about 11 cents so they are close there. The Hades are a little snug putting them into the breech and the Poly Mags fit just right. The weight of both pellets are so close that I am not testing that either. Here is where it gets interesting, the can shot with the Poly Mag ended up 8 feet away from point of impact. The Hades can ended up 5 feet away from point of impact. I believe that this tells me that more energy was dumped in to the can? Well I think it's time to see the results.

I think both cans look like it would be a quick kill if shot placement was even close. This was a fun test and I would have to say that both pellets performed well. The cost factor does favor the Hades though. The Hades also are available in a count of 300 and the Poly Mags only 150? Here is another cool factor, both pellets on impact sounded like my 22 LR . The crackling noise from the impact on the cans made this so much fun! Hopefully all of you got some more information on both of these pellets.

Polymags were my main hunting pellet UNTIL I tried Hades in my Royale 500. Accuracy is unbelievable & I have yet to have a pass through on varmints in over 6 months whereas I've had pass throughs with Polymags. I want ALL that energy dumped in my prey & they deliver just that. Polymags have always shot accurately from that gun but the Hades even more so!

Hades all the way! Also it’s bad enough our ammo is made of lead, don’t see the reason to leave this little plastic tips everywhere for hundreds of years to come. That’s the tree hugging part of talking! But most real hunters I know are more sensible and better conservationists than the emotion/not fact driven tree huggers.

To OP: I know you are trying to help demonstrate effectiveness of the pellets but......THATS SOME SERIOUS ALCOHOL ABUSE!

I don't think testing on liquid filled vessels is equal to testing on game or meat. Looks like Both cans were split open by the initial impact. The rectangular large hole in the back of the can seems to indicate the hades pellet had expanded prior to exiting the can. The small hole and the tear leading away from the other can seems to indicate the poly did not expand as much, passed through the can more quickly perhaps allowing the tear from the exit hole forming while the energy was still being transferred to the water. It's to bad there was no soft material to catch the pellet to see how much they expanded. I think the hades expanded more and would leave a larger blood flow channel. The hide on a squirrel is not as easily penetrated as a sealed can of liquid.I have no scientific data, testing, etc. All I've got is more then 50 years of hunting rabbits and squirrels. Before expanding pellets the larger diameter was the most deadly, bigger blood channels. I lost game to .177 back then. When large cavity hollow points came out in .22 like the crow magnum, then game was knocked out of the tree and didn't travel and hide. My favorite for back yard hunting is .25 Hades at lower velocities. Rabbits and Squirrels. Raccoons are back so I'm hoping to try .22 FX hybrids. Still haven't managed to buy the .25 FX hybrids. It's just my personal experiences that leads me to .25 cal . 25 grain expanding Hades for hunting and pest control.

I have found that tin cans filled with spray foam are a decent testing medium for different pellet impacts. Even shooting a lower power .25 rifle there were major observable differences. I want to run this test again with my Wildcat MKIII soon- about to foam a lot of gaps the cans are a great use for remaining foam in the can that would otherwise go to waste
