.25 Heavy pellet problem for guns with Poly barrels

JSB has made a habit of playing around with the molds over the years. Many, many times I’ve seen the skirts change between batches, not just .25 but also .177 and .22.

The main difference between the MKI and MKII is supposed to be the skirt diameter...the  originals being somewhat larger and not fitting some magazines. Can you measure a few for comparison?

I measured the following with tins I have on hand:

6.68mm on MKI
6.60mm on MKII

I don't have any .25s so no dog in that fight, but I too have seen JSB tweak the molds a bit. Learned this lesson the hard way when I poured the last 50 or so of a tin of .22 13.34s into a new tin. Loaded up a few mags and realized that I was playing a Sesame street game of "which one of these is not like the others." It was fun to sort out the different skirt cavity pellets. Both types shot equally well, just to a different point of impact.

Just measured a couple from each of the four tins of Mk2 and each of the four tins of King Heavy (Mk1). Both averaged 6.60mm. And both had the exact same head diameter, skirt thickness, and cavity depth. There is no difference at all between the Mk1 and Mk2 that JSB is passing off as King Heavy.

My REAL Mk1s that I have with the deeper cavity and thinner skirt also have a slightly larger skirt diameter in the 6.67 to 6.68 range.

Just checked some MkI and MkII tins. They're essentially identical in both skirt depth and diameter. For reference I purchased these in late August 2020.

Are you talking about these?

Earlier today I went to Joe's to fill my air tank and I bought one of each mark 1 and mark 2. I have a new to me .25 barrel in 600 that I don't fire much and did not know which pellet would be better in it. Because of that, I bought one of each. It was interesting though because when I ask about them and what the differences were, They said they have no idea, at the same time they did said they didn't even order these pellets and they showed up, and a whole lot of them. I will have to open them up to see the difference after dinner.

If there's a problem contact us at Predator 303-761-1236. We can't get it fixed if you don't contact us and tell us what's going on. Unfortunately, we don't go thru the tins when we receive stock to see if there are issues. And since we are catching up on so many orders we don't have any left to see what's going on.

Joe, don’t want to sound flippant, but all you need to do is read the posts to know there is a problem with the .25 King Heavy not being King Heavy but being Mk2. Everyone around the country is reporting that JSB has been filling the King Heavy tins with Mk2 since there is NO DIFFERENCE between the two. Look at all the posts in the last day, look at the photos. It’s obvious that something is wrong at JSB. I can call if you want but all I’ll tell you is what has been said by me and many others. No one expects Predator to open tins. The problem lies squarely with the manufacturer not the importer.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your e-mail.

I am sorry for this mistake. I can assure you that we still produce the original MKI pellets and will keep its production. I have to inform you that most of the packaging work in our factory is still done manually so you cannot avoid a human error from time to time. Please let me know how many incorrect pellets did you get and we will replace it with correct ones immediately.

Best regards,

Tried calling Predator on extended holds x3 then calls ended by predators system. Emailed the mfg seems like they will take care of it. I'm glad they are, as I just bought a LW polygonal barrel in .25.

Just emailed them saying it's gone on too long to be an occasional accident, packing issues are too common and ppl are losing trust in their brand and the only reason I still buy from them is due to they make the heaviest pellets but I buy FX pellets when I can. I asked them if they're affiliated with the FX brand and if so in what way.

RickRick, they make Air Arms pellets, FX, and Daystate. Possibly others as well.

Although I agree this has gone on for longer than the "occasional" mistake would explain.

Good idea @rickrick thanks. It seems the distributor hasn’t noticed an issue, nor even checked what configuration pellets were in the King Heavy or Mk2 tins. Also, the retailers aren’t aware since not enough people have returned their incorrect orders or even complained. If we as a group want to fix this we need to email JSB with as many emails as possible from those that have not received what they ordered.
