.25 Prophet slug testing

I’ll try some out of my gun to see how they do at a lower reg setting. I didn’t even try them because they are so light. When you get used to what heavier slugs do and how they behave, shooting pellet weight slugs is a little less appealing. My .22 slugger shoots a heavier slug than a .25 Hybrid. If they shoot good out of my gun which will be slower than what you’re shooting them, it will be good data about these barrels and what to look for in a true .25 slug moving forward.

Just shot about 20 of them. Gun was shooting them high 980’s. Had to shoot a bunch of them because they were teasers. Just shot at 50 yards. I would put two of them through the same hole then another close by. Then they would wonder around a bit. So I would shoot another five shot group. Then the same thing would happen. It always put two or three super tight but others just completely blew the group. With my gun and settings they just teased me with almost insanely good groups only to fling some. I would like to try them at 940fps but I’m not messing with my reg over something I will never shoot. I honestly can’t say where my reg is set. My tank pressure gauge is easily 10b off so I would imagine my reg gauge sucks equally. But it shows 120b.

I’ll admit, I’d rather it shot a mid 30 grain, the nsa 33.6 and the 36.2 are my only hope, I’ll play with those when I’m back from another round of fishing lol. I’ll keep you updated on groups and pressures, but I really need to polish this barrel, I know that’ll make a difference.

I’ve never had polishing a barrel suddenly make a gun like a slug. When I do polish, it’s usually just to help with cleaning intervals and ease of cleaning on a gun that already shoots great but seems to foul a little too quickly. But if it gives you more confidence to retest what you’ve already tested, go for it. Then you can see if it made a difference.

Do you have any idea what the groove diameter is on your barrel? A slug that is.0005 to.001 of an inch larger than your groove diameter is what you need. That bit of information comes from Roach Creek who's been casting and sizing bullets for over 50 years and knows what he's talking about. Or, you can keep buying this slug and that slug until you get lucky and find what works.

I have a ton more slugs to try, I really want to get this barrel polished before I get too crazy with it, if they still don’t shoot, then absolutely, it’s rebarrel time, I struggled with my 22 a bit and it is now a compact pellet pusher!
