Butt hook for Skout Epoch.

I worked with Andy @NAIAD001 to get a decent butt piece for my Skout so that I could “get it off the bench” and shoot EFT. I sent the factory butt pad and mounting piece to him, and he did an excellent job. Perfect fit. It allows the same adjustments as the factory butt pad. I removed the wing extensions since I like a tight fit on my shoulder. Last photo shows the butt hook with wing extensions.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Great job Andy!!!

Good question. Yes, I’ve been practicing bucket and sticks with it since mid November.

I recently lowered speed from 960 - 965 fps to around 940 - 945 fps. Better consistency. My SD for a full 25 shot magazine is under 2 fps. I’ve noticed off the bench that accuracy is equivalent to my .25 Red Wolf. I do notice less vertical jump with the Skout compared to the Red Wolf, so my vertical spread is usually better.

I had Skout send me a replacement HP ( and LP) reg, and the production manager and technical service manager Keith S told me he assembled the regs himself -

“I installed a seat that I stamped out a little larger so it has a tighter fit on the low pressure and installed a hand picked poppet and piston in the high pressure.”

I installed his HP reg and it’s been flawless. I have my reg set about 1800 psi and it doesn’t vary more than +\- 20 psi from 3500 down to 2300 psi. About 50 shots.

I’ve installed a 700cc bottle which gives 40% more shots on a fill, plus I don’t need to remove the ARCA rail to shoot EFT anymore. I have noticed that the barrel needs cleaned at least every tin of 34 grain Heavy to maintain accuracy and consistency. I’ve been shooting the .25 Daystate Rangemaster Emperor pellets, the gun loves them.

Thanks for the feedback, I have been following this thread closely and am seriously considering a purchase for 100yd BR. For next yrs. PA cup and possibly others?( Illness kept me out last yr. )
I’m glad Skout made things right after all the problems you had early on. I hope you choose to shoot this gun in your competitions this year and look forward to see your’s and other Skout owners results. Good luck in the upcoming season.

That was true when the reg was new. Now that it’s “broken in”, I’m experiencing that same issue of lowering reg pressure with lowering bottle pressure. It’s not as bad as it was with the previous reg, but it’s still occurring.

Today I started at 1820 psi and 952 fps with a 3600 psi fill. By the time I got to 2500 psi, the reg was down about 100 psi and my pellet speed was down about 15 fps. This is a drop of close 1/2 inch at 100 yards. Not an ideal situation.

For contrast, my .25 Panthera 600 from 250 bar to 150 bar, the reg stays at 135 bar the entire time, and slug speed stays within 1 fps at 888-889. This is with the stock AMP reg that comes with the gun.

Why do I bring this up? It’s not THAT big a deal most of the time. But, shooting Extreme Field Target (EFT), that 1/2 inch could easily be the difference between a hit and a miss at 100Y. Also, the new EVO slug gun probably has the same reg, and this much variance when shooting 200 to 350 yards IS a big deal.

Hopefully Skout is aware of and working to remedy this issue. Other that that, I REALLY like this Gold Epoch.

Over the past couple weeks I’ve been trying to get the Skout setup to shoot not only 100Y BR, but also Extreme Field Target (EFT).
As discussed above, the gun’s reg was good enough for Benchrest, but not really consistent enough for EFT without refilling every 15 to 20 shots.

I’ve made a modification about two weeks ago to the HP reg, and decided to test it today. I have watched the reg pressure with bottle pressure over the past ten days and it’s been fairly consistent within 50 ish psi from bottle pressure 3500 psi to 2200 psi. I’ve got the HP reg set at about 1775 give or take 25 psi.

So I filled to 3500 psi and shot the gun down to just under 2200 psi. Two magazines of MK2 Heavy .25 pellets at about 940 fps. And over those 50 shots, I had an ES of 9 fps and and SD of 2.1 fps. That’s as good or better than my .25 Red Wolf. Looks like my mod has made a difference. 😉
More testing required, but so far so good…

I’ve heard of that, but it’s helping the symptoms, not the cause. Not a huge fan of bandaids.

Can you share what the mod was or is it too soon in the testing process?

I’m not having the same issue but am curious as to what you did to remedy.

I’m going to hold off since I think it only exhibits the drift with bottle pressure when HP reg is at higher pressures like 1800 psi.+. For those with .30 cal and 35 inch barrel you’re at a much lower pressure and I think under those conditions the regs work fine.

Ok I think I’ve done enough testing to satisfy my curiosity.
I shot 4 mags, 100 shots .25 Heavy Daystate Rangemasters at 100 yards. Average speed about 944 fps. ES of 9 fps and SD of 2.47 fps for the 100 shots. Mostly from 3550 to 2150 psi. HP reg averaged 1780 +/- 20 fps for the full range.

What did I do? It was an easy concept. I had a feeling the polyurethane stem oring was taking a “set” after a few hundred shots and a couple weeks time. So I replaced the 90 duro PU oring with a 90 duro Buna-N oring.

WARNING: this is a very difficult oring to remove, and even harder to install.

Its oring SK-OU9009 on the below Skout drawing.
PS. While I had the reg apart I replaced all the PU orings with the correct corresponding Buna-N orings. Not necessary, I’m convinced the oring described above was/is the culprit.

I don’t think this is necessary unless you are running HP reg pressures fairly high, like over 1600 psi.

Being I have 2 HP regs ... Took one and unscrewed the cap containing said o-ring deep into the bore ... Using a Pigs tail spiral pick, o-ring came right out w/o issue. Installed a 90d Buna 008 which was more difficult than extraction :cautious: Once done installed that regulator and checked operation w/o any further drama. Set reg to 1500 psi and checked the 23g H&N slugs on chrony being 965 fps +/- 3 fps for @ 10 shots.
Was never having any problems with sticksion within reg, but now it's done never the less on one reg ... some bench time will tell the tale :unsure:

You meant size 009 correct? I don’t think mine was a stiction issue, it was the PU oring taking a set under higher pressure and allowing minor leak by…
