Skout .25 Skout Epoch

You meant size 009 correct? I don’t think mine was a stiction issue, it was the PU oring taking a set under higher pressure and allowing minor leak by…
No ... it matched up as a 008
Had read 009 and had that o-ring at the ready, it was too large !!
Went back into my SAE 90 duro kit and match up was one size smaller ( 008 )

By chance i saw a shop here in Denmark actually sell the Skout, the price tag = 37.000 DKkr or 5350 USD
In coparison a FX king is 17.000 Dkkr, and a Delta Wold HP hilite ( also .177 ) is 26.000 DKkr.
My monthly pension after taxes ASO is 14.500 DKkr

So as long as the gods of luck and fortune have me on ignore, there will be NO Skout for me.

Skout Epoch retails at dkr 23.000 or $3.300 - The price you saw was probably from Arms Gallery and way out of proportion !!! 🙃 :ROFLMAO:

Must be a different version of the HP reg. The parts list shows -009, and that’s what fit perfectly in my reg. Interesting.
Being my EPOCK is sub 0050 in serial # it very well might have slightly different specs.

As a note made during the swap ... Dang that is some tight quarters to get in a groove tool making that slot the o-ring resides within !!!
As a machinist, the bore area and offset of the groove depth is shockingly tight. Going up one size to 009 would absolutely make the accurate manufacturing of the regs end cap easier !! Tho again can only state what I've got in front of me to work with ... what you have may very well be different

It was tough to get out, but crazy tough to install. Those 90 duro orings are very stiff. While I had it apart I replaced all the PU rings with BunaN just because…. 😉
It made a big difference in my reg performance, I’m usually about 1800 psi, so it probably isn’t an issue with lower reg pressures. I shoot the .25 Heavy at about 945 fps, HP at 1780 +/- 20 psi and LP at about 165 to 170 psi. Dwell at 25 micro sec. For a 50 shot string I get about a 9 fps ES and 2.5 SD.

Things are coming together well. Shot some 25 shot strings at 100Y. Grouping about the same as my .25 Red Wolf.

Here’s a string 3400 to 2750 psi.

And here’s the next one, 2750 to 2050 psi. Both strings 25 shots. Avg speed picked up just a bit from 944 fps on first string to 948 fps on this one. Four fps makes no difference at 100Y.

I have to put my ignorance on display here.

Isn’t that O ring a centering device more than a sealing ring? If it leaked it would pressurize the cavity behind it.

Maybe that would cause the reg creep you’ve experienced because it would cause the pressure to be placed on the backside of the top of the poppet? Forcing the poppet down against the piston?

I’m most likely missing something. Just trying to understand.

Brian

Edit: I viewed that O ring as being there to prevent poppet metal on metal contact during movement.

Part # MFE-106 has the smaller spring #SK-SPR104 on its shaft, then the shaft rides inside the #SK-OU9009 oring. Not 100% sure of function, but I do know my reg works much better now.

Maybe Luke from Skout will chime in.

Regardless I have to hand it to you and Motörhead for getting that O ring out and in. I have an extra upper reg body and my non-marring picks won’t even come close to pulling it out. Let alone installing.

Over the past couple weeks I’ve been trying to get the Skout setup to shoot not only 100Y BR, but also Extreme Field Target (EFT).
As discussed above, the gun’s reg was good enough for Benchrest, but not really consistent enough for EFT without refilling every 15 to 20 shots.

I’ve made a modification about two weeks ago to the HP reg, and decided to test it today. I have watched the reg pressure with bottle pressure over the past ten days and it’s been fairly consistent within 50 ish psi from bottle pressure 3500 psi to 2200 psi. I’ve got the HP reg set at about 1775 give or take 25 psi.

So I filled to 3500 psi and shot the gun down to just under 2200 psi. Two magazines of MK2 Heavy .25 pellets at about 940 fps. And over those 50 shots, I had an ES of 9 fps and and SD of 2.1 fps. That’s as good or better than my .25 Red Wolf. Looks like my mod has made a difference. 😉
More testing required, but so far so good…
Forgive me for stating the obvious
Why are we having to fiddle fart around with a new gun? I sent mine home as the .177 wasn’t ready for distribution imo but without question Skout is a stand up company!!!

Mostly because I can see the potential in the gun. I’ll shoot it at 100y and EFT GP in Oregon first weekend in May. If it does well, I’ll shoot it at RMAC.

Why ... Because some of us simply can't leave stuff alone. Why ... Because thinking and applying ideas or changes the factory did not, can find improvements and even greater performance and/or efficiency. Why ... Because we can :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I’m relatively new to PCP’s but I come from a long line of shooters. I remember your tribulations with the .177. I don’t blame you for the decisions you made, it didn’t fit and didn’t work.

What I can gather from many here on AGN, especially the two main players in this thread, they try to extract the best they can from the platform. Doesn’t matter which it is. Even if that means tweaks and modifications to do so, regardless of the manufacturer.

Far as I can tell, manufacturers pay attention to these threads and it makes the product better.

Just my opinion.

Received a .25 magazine and single shot loader from CARM to test. Both of them function the same as the factory mags but have the stop so that you can’t advance the pellet probe when out of pellets. I loaded a few and shot, seems fine with no issues. I’ll test them with full mags this weekend.

The first 100 or so guns had an 008. This was revised to an 009 due to issues with the regulator not sealing when using a slow fill whip. We have since completely revised MFE 103 into a 2 piece design to make oring installation easier. Centercut and Motorhead, I will be doing some testing with bunas this week, I appreciate your efforts to help improve the EPOCH platform. It is users like you guys that help us drive innovation and in the end put out a better product.

As for putting that groove in those parts, I have about .01 of clearance to get the tool in and out without hitting the opposite side wall. Had to grind myself clearance to make it happen on the grooving tool.

Luke, you may also want to look at the LP reg oring SK-OU9008. With extended times at pressure it can extrude, make disassembly difficult and prevent MFE-113 from moving smoothly. A 90 duro BunaN in that position also helps. This info is from my buddy and team mate Augie @Bigragu, who has a Red .30 Skout Epoch.

That’s good info, thanks for taking the time and effort, plus posting it!👍 I hope in the future Skout either switches to Duro 90 or offers an optional kit to purchase these for the regs.
The orings in the Skout are all Polyurethane either 70 or 90 duro. I think it’s a good material, but for certain situations the Buna N seems to work better and be less susceptible to extrusion.
