.25 Wildcat MKlll tubed general maintenance

I plan on pulling the barrel and doing a good cleaning and breech oring replacement. Haven’t done either in the last couple thousand shots. Accuracy is still spot on but I thought I felt a little air from the breech area. It passes the tissue test. So maybe I am just feeling a little vibration on my cheek from the shot. Anyways, I have a couple questions. Both to do with the probe. When I cock the side lever and the probe slides into the breech, the probe slides back just a hair as the side lever locks into place. Also, when the probe is locked in the breech, I can wiggle it back just a little bit. I never noticed this in the past. Was wondering if it was just the linkage and needed to be like this so it doesn’t bind. Or if it was just getting worn and sloppy.

I have the reg set at 145 shooting NSA 33.5 at 890. Wheel at 7. Chrony shows 32 shots all within +/- 10 fps.

Check all fasteners for tightness. Always a good call to swap o rings if they’re questionable. But if it’s shooting great, don’t clean the barrel just yet.

If you must pull the liner, do scribe an index mark at 12:00 so you can make sure your liner goes back exactly where it was at. Lastly, very important- swap out the two grub screws on the cocking block, one at a time, for either M4 x 6 Torx or allen socket bolts. I prefer Torx as I can really tighten down on those with no fear of rounding out the Allen socket corners. Apply blue locktite on the threads.

Consider yourself lucky that the cocking rod hasn’t slipped on you in all your shots. When it does happen it’s because those grub screws work themselves loose and then since that rod is spring loaded it’ll move your pellet probe and your transfer ports won’t be aligned. What you’ll get is a sudden loss in power and you’ll wonder WTF happened.

This is what I’m talking about, on my MK2

Thanks guys. Nothing has moved or loosened that I can tell. Still have the pencil marks on the tube from the last overhaul. I did adjust the barrel about 1/2 a pencil mark and that tightened things up a bit. Good idea on replacing the screws. I had enough experience with that issue on my Hatsan Bully! It took me about 2 mags to foul the barrel and get back to my tight groups at 50. The breech oring was defiantly worn when compared to the new one. So it was a successful job. After a couple more mags, I chronyed a couple shot strings again. Just about identical as before. +/- 10 fps over 32 shots at 890 to 900 fps. Very happy.
