Pyramyd Air will be hosting its second annual Pyramyd Air Cup, September 11-13 at the Tusco Rifle Club in New Philadelphia, Ohio. Competitions include the PayDay Challenge, Field Target competition and the big crowd favorite, the Gunslinger (Ted won this even last year, and promises to have something up his sleeve for this year...but let's see if we can knock the king off his throne). Those new to the sport, as well as serious airgunners, are welcome to compete. A great time was had by everyone last year, don't miss out on this year's fun.

In all seriousness, this event is great for everyone. They split shooters into two classes, so the springer fellas don't have to shoot against the PCPs. And, if competition isn't your thing, PA has a exhibition tent set up with numerous guns you can try out. Finally, the ladies in the snack shack are super friendly. :)

For those that have shot Hunter class before, can you educate me with number of targets, is it single shot only or can you use a magazine, if there are any elevated targets and if so, what is the maximum height, and if a shooting mat is good to bring?

hey WCT,
last year there were NO elevated shots because of the lay out of the property. It was just not something that was possible last year. That being said, Tyler does like to have fun and it would not surprise me one bit to see the course pushed back a little farther than it was last year to make the cliff face come into play to allow them to add elevated shots. Not sure that will happen just because of the rules of the Tusco Rifle Club.

You can bring a shooting mat if you like, but if you are not shooting prone, it will do you much good. Most in the hunter class sit on buckets or short hunting type of stools of some sort. You are allowed to sit on the ground in hunter if you like, so if that was your intention then you should be fine with a shooting mat.

You can single feed or mag feed your gun but they are VERY high on safety and if you mag feed, they may ask you to remove the mag when you are done with your shots to assure there is no possible way for any accidents to happen. Accidents have no place in a FT match and at this club you will be removed from the property if something happens. Best to be safe, safe, safe no matter what it takes. 

I am in no way affiliated to the Pyramyd Air Cup or Pyramyd Air. I am just providing feedback based on my experience at last years event.

As a first time shooter in a competition outside of qualification in the Marines, that answered a lot of my questions. I was curious about the elevated shots simply to know if this is something I should be practicing as I've no clue where I'd need to aim for a 30 yard elevated shot. I've shot powder burners at Tusco before and know how focused they are with safety. Also, I forgot to ask about how many targets are generally shot as I want to make sure I've got enough air on me to make it through. Lastly, on the air topic, did they have any type of fill station last year? I'm planing on bringing my Omega 75 cu ft tank,but wonder if I need to have it topped off before making the trip.

There will be plenty of air there. PA provided something like 3-4 CF, 4500 psi tanks for everyone that did not bring their own with them. That being said, most people capable of bringing their own did so. PA also had a compressor on site and had one of their guys filling tanks for people that needed their tank topped off.

I would not expect any elevated shots this year, but again Tyler may do something funny just because I just said this. :) 

Tusco does require eye protection so be prepared with some sort of safety glasses. They did not mess with people wearing sun glasses, but eye protection was mandatory for everyone including spectators, no exceptions.

Even if they do put up an elevated shot or 2, you will be paired with an experienced shooter and can chat about how to take that target down.

I was looking at the gunslinger event (springer class) I will probably get my butt kicked but I think it would be a fun event. I have a question if anyone can help me out. What are the kill zone sizes we will be dealing with? Are the sizes set based off of the distance of the target or is it possible to be shooting the smallest killzone at the longest range? Thanks in advance!

" Harold Rushton airgun " (I didn't use the quote marks on google eh).
Field Target is about the most fun you can legally have and I have yet to meet a shooter , total newbie or exp. that didn't inprove there shooting by taking up FT.

Tyler sets up a moderately difficult match. There are too many new shooters that come out to this event to allow him to set up a very difficult match. Last years match was probably between 28-30 troyer(just a guestimate). I would expect something similar this year as well, so it will be fun. He does have small kill zones(zk's), but they are in line with how far they are away from you. Most of the targets had appropriate kz's last year so I don't expect anything different this year. Last year he hid one of the targets out in a 55 gallon barrel with the top cut off. That target was 100% dark and pushed way into the back of the barrel, so it was a difficult one. I missed my first shot on that target last year. You will see that most of the kz's are probably between 1/2 and 1 1/2 inches.

I think the most important thing a MD has to do is assure everyone that shows up has FUN. Everyone that showed up last year had a BLAST!!!! they will have a large turn out this year because I have a feeling lots of people are returning and a ton of new people are interested because of the "buzz" that has been created.

For gunslinger, the targets are standard 1/10th scale silhouettes. The size are as follows (I will measure the widest part for you)
Chicken: ~1.5"
Turkey: ~2"
Pig: 2.5"
Ram: 3.25"

As for the FT side, you are looking at all targets between a .5" and 1.5:"
At this time we do not plan on putting out any 3/8" targets.
The troyer will be about the same, although hopefully we can get creative and have a few fun targets. And by fun, we mean challenging.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in September. Make sure to register before the 1st of August when the price goes up.
