.30 Cal Dilemma

And wants an automatic Blitz. Given the number of Hatsan .30 in the same price range automatic appears to be a deciding factor. Who knows, none of us have asked.

Yes, apples and oranges, premium bolt action vs low cost automatic. He does demonstrate a price range of $600-800. So I kept my advice to that range or less.

As you say, already owns an FX and also Gamo and Avenger and most likely aware of the deficiencies inherent in the low end of the market.

Would I buy the Blitz, probably not. I'd keep the Impact as is and add something like an AEA Challenger or used .308 AF Texan. If i were to limit myself to Hatsan I'd probably go with the Hercules Bully.

But the OP does not say why they are looking for .30. Could be the "YeeHaw" factor of the Blitz. There is something to be said for firing a whole extended magazine with one pull of the trigger.

As for Norma Precision, the 4 pack was $9.99 when introduced. I bought 4, paid for 3, 3400 pellets for $30 plus whatever shipping was. Still the best deal ever.
I stopped mentioning those deals on here until I’ve made sure I’ve purchased as many as I want. I bought about 18,000 of the .177 Norma’s, but I only got a couple thousand in .22 before they raised the price.

I think the reason Hatsan complaints have diminished because the # of buyers have too. @SpindleB, if you're happy with yours, good on ya but you don't need to virtually hijack a thread trying to convince smart people how great they are. Don't know if you're looking for vindication for your purchasing decisions or what but you're obviously NOT going to find it here. Please take a breath and chill out!

I have a .22 Gamo magnum, .22 pcp avenger and .22 impaxt M4. I want to step up to a .30 pcp. If I buy an fx barell kit, mag, and moderator I am looking at over $600. Should I buy that or get a cheper .30 like a hastan blitz for $799.
Depends on how many guns you want in your closet or safe. You already have the basis for a great .30 gun in the FX Impact 4. What are you using the current FX Impact 4 rifle for, and would you miss it if you converted it to .30 caliber?

The other unanswered question is why does he want a .30. If he’s looking to do long range shooting out to 200 yards then he should be looking into converting the FX or buying a higher end rifle. If he’s looking to kill raccoons and coyotes at under 50 yards then a much cheaper gun will do.

I’m not particularly impressed by what I have heard about the Blitz, but it’s one of three full autos out there and it’s the only one that takes high capacity magazines. Personally, I think that airguns are an ideal way for people to experience full auto for reasons of both legality and economics. So if that’s what the OP is after then it’s the obvious choice.

To the OP’s original question, ordering the barrel/moderator kit for that price is the last thing I would do, it’s the least effective way to spend money to get a 30 or any other caliber as I see it. I’ve bought 2 Gauntlets from the classifieds here, a Gauntlet and a Gauntlet 2, both in .25. The Gauntlet needed a bit or work but both shoot very well and I’ve spent less than $600 total for both. Certainly worth a look. Hatsan, never tried one but you can get as nice a rifle as you want for enough money. One of the nice things about this sport/hobby is the variety of choices. Do your research and do some shooting. You’ll make a few mistakes but also some amazing discoveries.

@SpindleB - it's time to re-review the AGN rules. Rule #1 in particular applies. Your are welcome to disagree, but do so with respect.

We are here to talk about Airguns, not to criticize each other.

Everyone, take a breath and step back from the keyboard for a minute. Caustic behavior is not welcome in the AGN brotherhood.

We all have something to learn. For a good laugh, take a quick detour to learn about my favorite communication theory... Dunning-Krueger:

Back to OP's original post, do you want a .30 cal airgun for a specific task, or to shoot regularly on an ongoing basis? I have .22 cal and .25 cal air rifles that get shot almost daily, but my .30 only gets used for specific hunting purposes and gets shot much less often than my others. As such, I paid $250.00 for my AEA Challenger Standard and have been very happy with it for what I paid. If you plan to shoot .30 often then converting that Impact or investing in something like an M60 or Hatsan at $799.00 makes some sense. My .30 shooting at over 90 ft lbs will blast right through the backstops I use for my .22 and .25 rifles, and while the shroud does a good job, backyard friendly it probably is not. Just some things to consider for your .30 cal adventure...

I've been there and dine that, but was moving from .30 to .22 cal, eliminating the need for a moderator as the .30's does both calibers.
I wound up going with a caliber change kit and a couple of magazines in the end.
