30-Yard Challenge

Great shooting with your RTI Sharp Pog. What regulator pressure do you use?

I shot three 30-Challenge cards with my unregulated Reximex Daystar yesterday:
195 13X
195 11X
197 12X

I submit the 197 card for our Leaderboard. I battled a shifting wind on all 3 cards. The second 195 card definitely could have scored higher, but I got burned when my flags seemed still, yet wind was still pushing the little .177 pellets left.

The wind died down at 5:30pm and I shot a 40-Masters card with .22 Crown. First sighter was low (as usual with PCPs). Second sighter was a perfect bullseye, so I started the card. I submit this 196 14X !

I was getting so excited shooting the card that I pulled the shot that resulted in the 8 on target 8b. It definitely could be 15X as 7a could be just touching the X. I scored it conservatively as 195+ cards at 40-Masters are damn rare. So, counting my sighter, I put 15 out of 21 shots on the X at 40 yards… I was happy - made Becky take my picture with the card.

Thanks to TommyB who encourages me to shoot the Crown. If I shot it often, I could maybe improve with it and move closer towards Marvin’s level… but I love to rotate my rifles, so the Crown only gets a small slice of time.

196-14x would be a great “30y” Challenge card, but achieving that score with a “40y Masters” card is really tough. My knees would be knocking with excitement as I think about you shooting the card.

Nice job Ed!

Thanks Guys, it was a fun day shooting and the Crown 40-Masters card was a nice end to the day.

Thought some of you might be interested in my data on my Crown. Below you will find every 40 yard card I’ve shot - including some notes.

To date, the Crown has been the best 40 yard rifle I’ve found. My RTI Prophet when shooting .22 caliber averages 191 at 40-Challenge and 188 at 40-Masters. The Prophet has been 2nd best.

As many of you know, I’m playing my own game when I shoot my cards. I take sighters before starting the card, but zero sighters once I start the card. I want to know how well I can adjust shot-to-shot - without practice shots (sighters) in between.

An interesting data point is my Dec 20th 40-Masters cards with Crown. I shot back-to-back 197s, then needed to refill the air. It was in the 30s outside and 70 degrees inside where I filled. The next card after the 197s was a 181 - same conditions. It demonstrates how temperature sensitive these PCPs are. You need to let the rifle sit and adjust to external temps before target shooting. In the cold where I am, the scopes need to adjust too - the glass elements can shift slightly when moving from warm to cold.

With all this stuff going on, I’m always amazed at how accurate these compressed air rifles are - cool hobby.

Thanks for the compliments. The reg is 120 .Unfortunately I can't get beyond 35 yards in my yard .I've been shooting all the targets at 34 yards. I have another 25 cal prophet 1 but the reg recently started to creep . I cleaned it up some but still creeping .Any suggestions on how to fix it Also the Vulcan is not shooting as good as it was . I need to figure out why . This stuff can nake you crazy. Lol

Detailed video on how to rebuild the Prophet regulator - its a simple reg:

Seems to me the first sheet is always the best one as I'm always pushing to do better than that score but choke. 😆

195 if you count the tears. That one I recorded was just before I had to leave for dinner so I kind of rushed it a bit if you can't tell.

I guess because my 90 lb amazon paper kind of sucks, I'm going to just glue it to some card board.

Hi Guys,
So it has been a while since I shot the Nordic Wolf Crown and today seemed like a good day. After talking to Ed about his experiences at NAC I decided to turn my King into a .25 600mm pellet shooter for doing 100yd benchrest. That meant I put the .22 500mm barrel back in the NW Crown. I played around a bunch with the tune and found a really good one. SD of 3 and ES of 8 on 70 shot string! Plus, it seemed to be more accurate. The big difference from my other .22 tunes is I put the Transfer Port Wheel on Medium (instead of High). I had to increase reg pressure and hammer spring tension to get the 18.1's to fly at around 870. So why the long story.....
Shot two cards today. A 40yd Challange and a 30 yd Masters. A 2-3 mph gusty breeze from my 9:00, but really good conditions. The 40yd is good, at 192-11x, but I have done better with this rifle. But the 30yd Masters was exceptional - 200-17x!

I shot this last card in columns instead of rows. It made the sight-in adjustment a bit easier. I also had to check that last shot as I thought I might have blown it - below is a picture confirming the 10. Yipee!

Like I said previously, I love the background story and context for these shooting sessions.

Great job on both the 40y and ‘especially’ the 30Y Masters. I haven’t shot any ‘200’ score cards in such along time, I forget what it feels like.

Great shooting Greg!

P.S. What type of BR 100Y shooting are you gearing up for here? Private practice for fun, or heading to a competition event?

Tom

Tom,
I signed up to go to the Pyramid Air Cup for Field Target. When I was signing up I decided that if I was going to drive 7 hours and stay 3 days I should go ahead and join all the competitions. So I also signed up for the 100yd benchrest and the Speed Silhouettes (aka Gunslinger). I hope to do well in FT, but the other two are just for fun.
Cheers,
Greg

Congratulations on the 200 Masters Greg, I’ve never shot one… choked and shot a 9 on the last target for a 199 a couple times…

Damn, now my 200 13X 30-Challenge card with the Crown a couple months ago looks weak by comparison to your 30-Masters.

I’ve been working on 40-Masters with Crown - have a string of 10+ 40-Masters of 191+ with it…

… and now I’m gonna have to rezero at 30 yards, lol. I’ve never done 18X… that’s what I’ve gotta shoot to beat ya…

Awesome job,

Ed

Now get that King tuned for 100 !!

Got out today early, no wind.

Shot both 30Y Challenge and 30Y Masters cards. 5 cards in total.

I missed my first 200 of the year by one strange flier, on the 30Y Challenge card. I totally missed all the rings and cannot figure out what happened.

199-11X - will submit for next leaderboard.

Also shot a 194-14X Masters.

The new Heras is making it a bit easier with the 40X magnification.
