30-Yard Challenge

Hello everyone,

It has been a while since I last shot a 30-Yard Challenge because I have installed a wood fence behind my 25-yard target frame. I have to set up in my shop and shoot out the door at my portable target frame to shoot the 30-yard and beyond. Shot several 25-yard and with no wind so I decided to try the 30-yard and this was my second effort.

Range: Outdoor 30-Yards
Rifle: Brocock Sniper XR .22 caliber
Scope: Athlon Argos BTR Gen2 10-40x56
Pellets: JSB Jumbo Heavy 18.13gr
FPS: 834
FPE: 28
Wind: zero mph

Ok, it was the best wind day in a long time, so I brought out my best 30/40 Challenge rifle - FX Crown - and let em fly…

I cannot believe how well this thing shot!

Cards were:
40-Masters: 197 12X (18.13g)
40-Masters: 197 13X (18.13g)
40-Masters: 194 10X (18.13g)
40-Masters: 194 11X (20.83g MRDLs)

Back-to-back 197 40-Masters… may not do that again for a long time! I’ll submit the 197 13X for the leaderboard.

The new 20.83g pellets are similar shape to the awesome 18.13s. To try them in the Crown, all I did was guess 5 clicks up on Power wheel. It was a good guess - gave me 885fps. I didn’t even adjust scope.

Both my 20.83g sighters were Xs (white dot on left) and then shot 194 40-Masters with the next 20 shots. Had a couple drop low - not sure if I need to wait longer between shots with this heavier pellet for plenum refresh - or if these pellets are not as consistent weight as the 18.23s. Velocity of each shot next to target.

Damn- that’s about the best 40-Masters day I’ve had to date ! Skinny straw barrels and poop triggers, but my FX rifles are accurate as heck.

I can’t buy a 190 40Y Masters card, and you shot four of them Ed! 40Y Masters is so unforgiving and you made it look easy. We know it’s not.

Great shooting with that Crown. Btw- the .22 caliber Crowns have been at the top of some N50 match results around the country also.

198-16X My first attempt. 30y. Barely any wind. Shooting my ZM 2002 on a one piece rest. Sightron 10-50x60.

Excellent David!

Post a picture of that Annie next time you get a chance.

Looks like .177 pellet holes. 13.4g, what velocity? Pretty good 30Y accuracy for a 10M rifle! JK, 😊

It’s at 18.5 ft-lb. It’s primarily my field target gun.

Hope to have my Thomas back soon.

David

Awesome shooting by you & your buddy.

If you can give us your pellet make & weight as well as the scope make, model, FFP or SFP and magnification used (for both rifles used), I’ll put you both on the next leaderboard.

Of course you will have to give me the AGN handle of your friend, or we can just use “DaveBuddy”… 😉👍🏻

I had to take down Rod's target because I forgot his stand was at 25y when I switched him over to this challenge target. Then the winds picked up and with his gun being 12 ft-lb the scores dropped pretty hard. He will get on the board another day.

Does somebody not sale them. I don't own a printer or personal computer. I have my phone. I would like to purchase some real size match targets to shoot.
Good morning @Hunter25

Copy the pdf file to your phone and any print shop can print you targets from that pdf file.

Wind

Leaderboard Submission:
Target: 40-Challenge
Rifle: FX PowerPup (500mm)
Ammo: JSB 20.83g MRDL
Velocity: 910fps
Scope: Sightron SII 36X (fixed power)
Magnification: 36x

I shot this card on July 3rd with 14mph winds gusting to 28mph. (!) Obviously, I waited out the gusts, lol. It took me much longer to shoot than a typical card. I was testing both the new 20.83 MRDLs in the wind and my own patience in waiting for the “right” time to take shots.

wind: I live high in the hills in Vernon. In the 4 years I have owned this home, I have NEVER seen a bicycle rider on our street – and there is no through traffic – so it would be a nice place to ride, but the hills are too steep. Because of being on a hill, I don’t get many still wind days. Even worse, because of the hill, the wind is always shifting – sometimes very quickly – even before the wind flags show that it shifted.

These are the holds that I used to shoot this 197 card. I’m really proud of this card because of the way I battled the wind. Another observation is that NO WAY I would have broken 190 in these conditions with the 18.13g at 40 yards. The 20.83g definitely are significantly better than the 18.13g in heavier wind. Definitely one of the best “windy” cards that I have ever shot – I even took a single sighter mid-card (!) because the shifting wind was confusing me. I shot a 192 40-Challenge after this 197 in the same conditions, by then the wind was too confusing and exhausting for me - my patience was shot.

So for those guys shooting out of their houses and garages and posting those awesome 200 scores… I dare ya to bring your rifle to my place, lol – double dare ya. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who has posted a 196+ card at even 30 yards that had to hold on the 8-ring or further out during the card.

Shot these yesterday, thought I posted them? Anyway a couple 40yd targets and a 40yd masters. All scored as a masters card.
A little disappointing but the way it goes!View attachment 477514

Those 40 yard cards sure are not disappointing Joe… mid-190s at 40 are some of the best scores ever submitted at that distance!

I believe I’ve scored this correctly: 200-19x. Using a .22 caliber 22.07 JTS pellet and scored with a .224 scoring plug. 10s have to touch grey and Xs have to touch center dot.

Dave,

Looking at this card I’d have to say its absolutely one of the best cards ever submitted. Not only a 240 across all 24 targets with 19Xs, but shot at a rifle range in a wide open competition-style environment!

Awesome shooting,

Hey Ed,

Are you using wind flags and if so, how many between you and target?
