30-Yard Challenge

Well this time I got a couple more points. A 193 11X still with my P35-177 with vector 32X scope shooting H&N Baracuda FTs at 905 fps (measured today, estimated previously). Please use this one in the spreadsheet unless my slow climb continues. I took more warmup shots, 5, but may still need to take more with this gun and pellet. The early shots seem to have more fliers. The last 11 shots on this one were 10s.

Nice shooting JimmyD !

I have a few tins of the 9.57s. They are excellent pellets but I haven’t shot any outstanding scores in my limited number of cards with them.

My gut tells me that I’ve been shooting them too fast - 850fps+.

Field Target in Europe is 12 ft/lbs - which translates to 750fps with 9.57g pellets.

So, its possible H&N optimized these pellets for 750fps range velocities .

Lets both try them at 800 fps or lower and compare results.

Thought I would submit this for 40yd master score.( 190-10x ) But wasn’t sure if the plug had to totally cover the black dot or just touch? I scored as touch. Wind was negligible 3-4mph.
Here’s the real kicker, shot with the 13.4 redesigned/redesigned’s!!! Maybe could have got a couple more points with the original’s? But this poly shoots them pretty good at that range! Normally fall apart past 30-35yds.

Great 40-Masters with .177 nomojoe !

We’ve seen great results with 13.4g even at 40 yards if velocity is 780-820fps. Above 820fps, the 13.4s don’t do as well accuracy-wise.

What speed are you shootin’ em ?

First wanted to say the barrel pictured is not the barrel on the gun now it’s the titanium shrouded one “ not that it really matters”.
I’m shooting them around 810-815fps. Those speeds with the original 13.4’s is 820fps. I believe I can improve on this score with originals?
This is the setup that arrived from Martin, I haven’t done any tuning at all.

Joe - nice shooting.

If the hole “touches” the black X dot with scoring plug, it’s an X. You’ll need the magnifier on the close ones, and your iPhone to zoom in and snap a picture if you can’t tell with naked eye. Ask me how I know 😉

I know in shooting N50 with pellets your hole needs to “cover” the black ‘X’ dot to count as an X with their .035” plug shanks. So, it’s easy to mix up the scoring between the N50 scoring and our 30-40y Challenge targets.

My FX Trash Cans ( 13.4g ) originals or non redesigned shoot 810-815 FPS in my TM1000X. 40Y Masters is tough scoring in any wind for me.

Went to the range this morning.

I had the new Vet .22 cal 700mm long with me again. I wanted to shoot some 40Y cards before the wind came up. I had a small window of about 30 minutes, but then it started blowing. Move to 30Y when it got too windy - see video.

199-13X (30Y Challenge)
193-10X (40Y Challenge)
192-9X (40Y Challenge)

Two Leaderboard submissions:

30 Y Challenge: 200-18X
40 Y Challenge: 196-10X

Wow! Smokin’ hot scores !!

You’re no longer TommyB… You’re now “TommyTaipan” 😉

Great shootin’ Tommy 👍🏻

Stormy all day, but once the storms passed the wind laid down and I had time for one card. Shot my FX 500 Royale. I have a simple single shot tray on order, that might get me another point or two. 197 12X (wrote 11X but crossed out the wrong one). And to top it off AoA called me and said my .177 Black Wolf with 23 inch barrel has arrived! It will take a week or two to get to me since their testing is backed up. Cheers! Rick

Damn, you’re getting really good with those “fancy” guns you shoot Rick. I’m tempted to send you my .177 Gauntlet Gen 1 and some Crosman pellets to see how you shoot with it, lol.

Great card - can’t wait to see your .177 Blackwolf on the leaderboard. Consider our data - if shooting the 13.4g with the Blackwolf, keep velocity under 830fps. The 10.3g can retain accuracy up to at least 920fps, but the 13.4g prefer slower than 830.

Thanks, Ed. I don’t have the skill to tune a PCP to do what yours do. So I compensate by choosing guns that, at least theoretically, should shoot straight out of the box. And don’t require complete disassembly to change a hammer spring. That is intimidating. I give you due credit. If it’s any consolation, the Black Wolf is the first rifle that I bought new :).

Not my best, but the wind was tough.

Nice card Taipan Tommy… but I beat ya with my only Huntsman card yesterday (also shot an Akela card).

Spent a bunch of time working on my Benji Cayden. Switched back to cut down Crosman spring and working on tuning it to be backyard friendly while retaining accuracy.

BTW, my Regal has a Huma reg back in it (with a huge plenum that’s not needed for my sub 20 ft/lb current tune). I’m also running a custom hammer spring from AliExpress and a custom spring guide - also sourced from AE. Notice that I also have removed the barrel band to free float the barrel. I’m using my original stock which is pretty, but this spring I’ll put on the incredible tiger striped stock that another AGN member sold me - because it was too pretty to waste on his Revere which he used for hunting.

13X in switching wind - I’m more than happy with that. Rifle is extremely quiet with this tune. Spread is usually less than 7fps across 24 shots with the reg installed - not super important at 30 yards.

They are beautiful looking Sporter rifles.

Your 15.89 did great at bucking the wind at 780 fps. Nice card.

You gave me a good idea looking at your front rest. I might use my Randolph front rest vs. the Bipod to see if I can get a few more points.

I have the barrel band on mine. I really don’t know if it hurts or helps. I see so many opinions on pros and cons.

I would like to get the Revere a bit higher in terms of scoring.

It shot pretty solid groups with both the 15.89 and 18.1 yesterday.

Thanks Tommy.

Not great shooting weather around here - and I hurt my back about 5 days ago - so not comfortable bent over shooting.

No excuses though. Used the Akela .177 for these 3 30-Masters cards over the past two days.

Pretty consistent - especially in wind that is sneaky switching directions: 194 9X, 194 9X and 193 10X.

Note the 5 sighters that I circled (remembered how to do a circle in Preview, lol). Akela first shot was high (rifle still warm from being indoors), the next 4 are a 1/4 inch group - even though I'm adjusting scope a couple clicks down while shooting it. Super consistent unregulated rifle.

Another cool thing regarding consistency of the unregged Akela was the 193 10X card. I had left the Akela outside for about 15-20 minutes after shooting the first card today. I had exactly 20 pellets left in the tin. So I shot the 193 with ZERO sighters. The first 3 shots were Xs - so the Akela can sit outside in the cold for a while and still hit an X on this tiny target.

I marked my aim points with tiny red dots on the 193 card. The dang wind shifted on 2b, then I moved down to 4b and refused to believe that the wind had shifted that much - as my flags were not showing it. The pellet went exactly the same as 2b, lol - I'm stubborn with my wind reads - needed a sighter after 2b but I was doing the "Davey Crockett make every shot count" thing with the 20 pellets.

I'm really confident with the Akela now. It's an honest 190+ rifle on 30-Masters in average conditions. Its a 195+ rifle on 30-Masters when conditions are great. Not bad for an unregulated, budget rifle - but I did do my EPG tuning on it - especially customizing the hammer spring length.
