30cal pellets what speed

I settled on 870-890fps for my M3 with the 44.75. What I ran into was that with any tune at the knee or even lower, and within the 850-910 range, it was REALLY hard to tell a difference shooting 5-7 shot groups at 50 yards. Still hard to tell at 100yds. It is an extremely forgiving pellet/gun combo.

I paid attention to what the top RMAC 100yd shooters were doing to try and save myself time/money. Justin Welch had a creative tune where he would shoot the 44.75 at around 940fps if it was calm, but if the wind came up he would quickly turn it down to around 870fps. Most other shooters were in the 860-890 range the entire time. I figured I could probably get a good 910+ tune, but it might vary in the wind so settled on the 870-890fps range for most consistent performance in all conditions.

Also, I did all my tuning and testing with the Superior 1:37 pellet specific liner. This is modeled after the original STX 1:40 that was killing it at 100yd competitions. Some people report the Superior Standard 1:22 liner performs slightly worse than the 1:37 at 100yds+. Based on twist there is a risk of increased wind drift at 100yds with the 1:22. I have yet to see any complaints about pellets in the slow twist liners.

Unsure about the liner type he had, but I spent a good hour behind Ernest as he was retuning his impact at RMAC to the elevation change. His target speed was at around 870-877 FPS, so I agree with the speeds you described. My MK2 was set at 880-885 when I left home for RMAC, and being a newbie, I should’ve checked it while I had the time to see if anything changed, like Ernest did. So, that’s on my live and learn list for next time.

Others shooting the impacts in 30 shared their speeds with me, and there were a few in the 930-940 range using the 44.75’s

To date, my wildcat MK2 30 cal still has the original factory liner. Never bothered to upgrade to the superior liners that came out. It is a very accurate Gun, and sure enough, twist rate is 1:37.

Tried and worked on impacts with the 1:22 twist. That liner is awesome using the fx hybrids at 970 and higher speeds. Also does well with the 30 cal Haydes. The JSB or fx 44.75’s, not so good. The fx and JSB dome pellets have decent “hunting accuracy” using the 1:22, but not suitable for “benchrest accuracy”.

But the hybrid slugs at the upper 900 speeds, surprised me cause they shot as accurate as pellets. On a gun shooting 3 shot groups into 2” round targets out to 45 yards, I had a few where two were hole in hole out of the three shots, with the third being really close the the two in the single hole. If I were to build a 30 impact strictly for the hunt it would be with a 1:22 twist liner, 30 cal, and shooting the hybrids between 980-1000 FPS(all dependent on barrel length)

I had my gun in the 930-940 range but the gun always had that small jolt up front at that speed, enough to throw the shot off due to the slow lock time air rifles in general are known for. I’ve seen Ernest’s gun personally and it’s all about front end weight with his gun.

I don’t know how old that video you saw was, but last June on his 30 cal 877 was the speeds his fx chronograph was reading shot after shot, using two 700cc bottles side by side under the barrel.

Currently I’m on a quest to accomplish two things by next year- harmonics control number one, and two with some assistance from AGN member BIGHUN, steadiness of the equipment by adding weight. If my mods and tests work out, then my speeds will be back up to as high as I can get a 30 to shoot while still being accurate.

I run my JSB Hades/Exacts at 930fps, but out of the box, the gun was doing 880fps and it was pellet on pellet for as long as I had pellets.
There’s a reason the majority of airgun manufacturers target that speed in their 30’s. Pellet on pellet for sure. My very first FX was a 30 cal wildcat MK2. It shot the 44.75’s at 855 FPS, and after shooting 3 shots at a target 40 yards away as soon as the Walmart centerpoint scope was mounted and sighted in, I knew right there and then the differences in quality, one(I had a marauder and a Hatsan hercules bully as my first and only guns before the wildcat), and two, you get what you pay for. I was totally amazed as I had never shot a one hole group after 3 shots.

Then of course, the power bug bit me and now at 950 FPS the gun shoots great, but no where as accurate as it was 100 FPS slower when it was stock. I’m at 3/8” to 3/4” groups at 50 yards, and I’m ok with that as my wildcat is not meant to be a bench gun.

Thanks Bigragu am always looking at videos on fx 30 cal at the moment am shooting JSB 44.75 at 940 and there not bad i was at 890 and they was doing well out to 100 i haven't played around with the regs as yet am 1st 150 2nd 110 wheel 16 micro 4 valve just over 4 i have tried slugs zans 45.5 at 940 it did not like them i Emailed zans and zan sude said they like slower speeds 820 890 but if you are looking for super accurate slug in 30 you will have more success with 49 or 54 gr so going to try them this weekend

If you want a great .30 cal slug in an FX airgun, definitely try the FX Hybrid Slugs. I get sub MOA accuracy shooting them at 930 out of the 600mm Superior X Liner, along with devastating expansion on game.

This photo below shows the FX Hybrid Slugs .30 cal before and after recovery, and an FX Hybrid Slugs .357 cal far right for reference.
