30m prone TR77 NPS latest results

bit more shooting with POI changing just about every shot, I market the turret adjusters with a paint pen and sure enough they are moving when I shoot, so with that solved gun is now pin point accurate once again, I was able to try the variety of pellets I have and the 8.4 grain JSB exacts are the best by far, the JSB heavy and cometa shoot too car low and left to dial in with the scope so have ordered a few more tins and see how we go, I also have another mount master coming tho still undecided if I will fit it

random shots are initial ones, the bullseye shots are once I sorted it in all pix, this is at ~40 yards

received my replacement nikko stirling 50mm AO 4x12 so I fitted that and dialled it in, here is 4 shots after I had it right, at about 35 yards at night lol

the barska scope was quite dark and not a very wide field of view so I decided to try the nikko stirling again as it lets in a lot of light and has a broad aspect, with the shims and JSB exacts it required little adjustment

both the nikko and barska are now dead..... bought a UTG 3-9x40 for it as they are supposed to handle magnum air rifles, so far so good nice tight groups, still working out the focusing of it as it is non AO the picture is not very clear at high magnification at 'close' range ~30-40 yards

will take some more shots tomorrow and post pix as I think I have it sorted

with the 'heavy' pellets they shoot very low and left for some reason, the 8.44 grain JSB require much less adjustment to dial in, I only have the heavier ones for now but have 3 tins of the 8.44 coming so will re-zero it in with them once i get them

Mate, sorry to hear about all your scope dramas, if this one gives up maybe try the Nikko Stirling Airking instead of the Mountmaster, supposedly a tough scope. I am using a Sabre 4-12x42 which appears identical to the Nikko on my Hatsan Striker but not without a few problems. Needed to do a bit of grinding on the mount between the rings to allow the scope to sit level, then drill a couple of countersinks into the top of the spring chamber for the grubscrews to bite into and stop everything sliding off under recoil. Then under recoil the scope's objective bell fell off, glued it back on, it is trying to shake a turret off but after several hundred pellets it has retained its original zero and I am not touching it, lol, so for a 130 buck scope I can recommend it especially with the abuse my Hatsan has dished out to it.

Where abouts in Oz are you?

yeah the BKL mount seems to be working well, the scope does slide in it how ever, 2 screws on each is not enough. I am in QLD eastern australia.

so far the UTG scope is working well, tried a couple of other pellets in it and it shot fairly close so maybe the BKL mount is not 100% causing the shots to go so far off initially. Have sorted it out tho, 6x magnification is max for ~40 yards to keep clear focus, I am still thinking about getting the 10x50 AO one tho the AO is very useful.

was having major issues again trying to zero scope, tried the supplied mounts--no good, I have the BKL back on and shimmed it according to 'air gun experts' tips on youtube and here are the results, this is with JSB exact heavys, yet to receive my 8.44 grain

initial zero at about 20m, couple of flyers but mostly good

fine tuned it at the most common range/angle I use when dealing with the minor birds, pretty happy with that, 2 high ones were as I was dialling in height

as a last resort I gave the barrel some coaxing to bring it back to eliminate a lot of the dial in I had to do, which it would seem was the issue with it not holding centre as it is now bang on, the first high one was first shot after zero at closer range, the 2nd is after adjustment as the scope seems to take a shot to come in after adjustment, this is with the GAMO magnum pellets that are far from consistent

and i scored a 50m minor bird kill in a tree about 20m up, dropped like a stone, would have been a good scopecam moment if i had one…..

Are you sure you want to go down the PCP track? Do you have access to a dive shop to refill a scuba bottle or are you ready to use a hand pump? These are a couple of considerations to take in as they add to the initial purchase of a PCP rifle but of course you are not going to destroy scopes with one. The Oz model of the Blizzard shoots a bit hot I believe and those who own them change the hammer spring for a more consistent shot count and accuracy, the Gamo Dynamax can be had for a good deal at the moment if you look around, basically a BSA Hornet renamed but if you don't want to go to PCP's perhaps have a look at Weihrauch HW97/77 underlever springers, a tuned one of these is very accurate and scope friendly, maybe a smarter alternative if you do not have a HPA supply.

The Cobra series is one our basic and most popular air rifle scopes in Europe for all air rifles including heavy recoiling spring piston high FPE air rifles. Whether it's hunting small varmints or punching paper, the Cobra is a rugged rifle scope designed to hold up to .50BMG and Magnum Spring Piston. Parallax adjustment down to 10 yards together with a Mil-Dot reticle makes it an ideal scope for daytime precision shooting!

see how it holds up

the cobra seems good so far, initially I tried the JSB Heavy exacts and they were all over the shop, I was thinking oh poop not this scope too...... but it would seem my rifle does not like them.... anyway used the GAMO pro magnums and dialled it in at 10m, on this target started low then went a bit too high then got it spot on, about 20 shots in this group

had to put the chinese 1 pc mount on as the rear mount with the stopper was tilting back and indented the scope tube...... I also am trying something I read on the net about using PTFE thread tape around the scope tube to prevent it creeping, seems to be actually working so far.

I went to an indoor pistol range for some shooting, used the GAMO pellets again, they are not bad up to about 10m but more than that and they are a bit random

this is I think 15m, mostly on target but more than a few randoms, the shots near the 6 was me testing aim as it was hard to see my POI with so many holes
