$35 chrony test

I've hit my F1 chrony a few times over the years so odds are in favor of it being out of calibration. This is always a difficult issue to remedy since getting one recalibrated is expensive from the little I've looked into it and a new one isn't always an option either.

I'm a proponent of buying here at home and local but sometimes I will bend and buy from i.e.. Amazon and China. I'm not racist, more of a 'conspiratal realist????'

The good thing about these inexpensive chronys are they can give us something to compare the chrony we may already have.

Here's the results, I was shooting through the $35 chrony while it was resting on the edge of my F1 chrony. I have a .25 condor, 24" barrel, extreme valve. Shooting 34g Fx pellets. The gun btl started at 1600 psi.

I have found having the barrel in a fixed position in height and distance give much more accurate and precise readings. When set on a picnic table with natural lighting I get far more unreliable readings. Years back I built a chrono stand with artificial lights and a stand where the barrel lays and an area for the Chrony to set. This keeps everything in the same distance over and from my chrony screens. No matter which rifle or pistol is shot over the chrono the barrel is the same height and same distance back. With the artificial lights they are always the same height and position over the screens. A pellet trap is at the end to catch all the pellets. All this is mounted onto a 4 ft long board and movable, just nedd an extension cord for the lights. This unit has served me well for over 20 yrs. It has been extremely consistant and reliable. I have expermented with different heights of the barrel and different lighting, especially when used outdoors in the sun, all these differences can and do make a difference in the chrono readings. Cloud cover vs. sunlight can make a big difference in fps readings.

pinguinu01, It attaches to the barrel which is very nice to have, it's one of the few that seem to be made the same but sell by different names.

rj, it would probably be better just to search amazon for chronograph. There are so many of the same one sold by different distributors with different prices and occasionally a particular one may be sold out.

This is the chrono hard air magazine did a review on surely something must be askew did you try swapping chrono positions? As speed can be lost pretty rapidly but that’s huge

JR, I've got the extreme valve in my condor and with it even on the lowest power wheel setting it's always used about 75# per shot when I shoot heavy pellets or slugs.
