What again are the benefits of the big butt for the shooter?
To my mind it has to be for a combination of comfortable length of pull and a shorter trigger linkage, at least for those guns with a linkage. I believe the Impact doesn't have a linkage, not sure about the Priest.
If you take a pair of calipers and measure the CGI images in your original post it's interesting to compare the Skyhawk and the P15 (these are the same guns in different dress, correct?).
If you measure from the same point in the breech to the trigger they are the same. Now if you measure the length of pull the Skyhawk is longer and it clearly has more butt hanging off the end. I take this to mean the trigger linkage is the same between the two guns but Diana wanted a longer LOP. And I did find one old forum post suggesting the LOP on the P15 was too short so this was an easy way for Diana to correct this since they were coming up with a new stock design anyways.
Back to my comparison of the Lelya 2.0 and the Veteran Compact, they are directly above and below each other in your images so you really don't need calipers.
The Taipan has some butt overhang yet the trigger is still well behind the Lelya above it.
To me this suggests the Taipan was designed with a shorter trigger linkage and a bit of butt overhang to get some LOP back.
The Lelya was designed to maximize barrel length and compactness and for a longer LOP.
Interesting to observe that the trigger on the Veteran seems to be well liked. Not sure about the Lelya trigger.
The Veteran standard has a longer LOP than the Veteran Compact but according to my not so precise means of measuring CGI images the Veteran Standard still has a shorter LOP than the Lelya.
I find this topic interesting. Interested to hear from people with more experience.
