400 YARDS - FX Airguns Impact Prairie Dog Hunting with a Field Optics Tripod!

@upnorthairgunner -We are getting .22LR powder burner power with the precision of a Vudoo Gun Works .22LR competition rifle from an airgun!

I’d love to see a shoot off Extreme FT style out to say 150 to 200 yards. FX .22 Impact 800mm barrel vs Vudoo .22 LR. It would be interesting but my money is on the Vudoo. Look at the most recent NRL-22 Nationals results to see why I think the .22LR would win easily.

Don't get me wrong, I think throwing mortars out there at 400 yards is pretty cool and I’d be right alongside you guys if given the opportunity. But let’s also be real about it. Even IF they shoot MOA at 400 yards, which is about 4.2 inches (the target is maybe two inches wide) and IF the wind drift is judged perfectly (10mph horizontal drift is about 5 feet), and IF the yardage is spot on (a 3 yard distance error at 400 yards is about 8 inches), and hits have a good deal or great deal of luck thrown in. So “walking the shots in” is about the only way to ensure occasional contact.

Nothing wrong with that and for pesting any hits are good hits. They aren’t hunting, they are pesting. There’s a difference.

You are 100% spot on. You and I both know that once you get out past 200 yards even with the most DOPE'd air rifle and shooting higher BC slugs (for a small caliber airgun) which is still only in that .09-.13 BC in .22 the amount of hang time these slugs have and the effect of heavy wind conditions on where the impact occurs, you are basically making a calculated guess based on the previous shot. Hell those 350 and 400 yard shots in the video were both skipped in for the kill, but you will notice how I am shifting and adjusting based on previous engagements.

When it comes to ethics and hunting vs. pesting - I have vary differing view points on each. In my mind they are totally different. It is why I have ZERO issue with shooters hanging out of helicopters dumping full magazines into groups of running wild bores in Texas. No one can tell me those shots are precision in any way shape or form. Those destructive animals need to be taken out. Same thing with taking long range full magazine dump pot shots at running coyotes with powder burners. If the coyote population is out of control in a given area wiping out Turkey or Deer or livestock - or household pets - that animal needs to go. The rancher that invited us out in Utah needed those prairie dogs removed. Same for the Iguana hunt in Florida. Full disclosure, those lizards do not go down easily and anyone who says they can dome one every single shot is lying.

With that said.... I am VERY mindful of ethical shots on game animals I hunt for food. I take that quite seriously, but I also know that is between me and that Deer - Turkey - etc. that I hold in a much higher regard than a pest animal. It is just different.

@SDellinger: yes, one of these days I need to bite the bullet and get everything $$$ to reload. 50 and 55 grains are all there is for factory load, fortunately getting factory 6.5 creedmore with 145g Sierra isn’t nearly as bad but still somewhat unobtainium.

NSA’s price is really quite good so I can afford to shoot 200-300 round or more a sitting vs couple of boxes or 40 rounds of creedmoor. Or worse, popping a few rounds of 338 or gasp….50bmg in my buddy’s guns.

Even with cost aside which is astronomically higher would the farmer even want gun shots on his property? I wouldn’t if I were the farmer with workers have to work some what near by. I’m sure that is good part of the reason the UA crew are invited to certain properties as supposed to PB groups who would also love the shooting opportunities.

If you're going to kill a living thing, whether for eating or eliminating it as a pest. You should strive for a humane kill, no distinction. I kill rats and am quite good at it, I only take kill shots as I don't want them to suffer. I know that the farmer want their appetite curbed and any shot will do. But I'm the one sending and a kill shot is the number one priority for me. So no Hail Marys on living things.
