48 hours with the Ranger XR in 22 cal

@L.Leon I used a terminology misstatement. You know I am a fan of the platform, the 177 was very very solid. On the 22 Ranger, the inlet valve is not closing as it should. I spoke to AOA, sort of today, their repair dept was closed. They were stumped, and agreed something isn’t right. I should be able to match what Steve had on his video, pipe dream with what I have now. AOA I am sure will make it all right. I just am glad I have the Uragan, because it is also a very solid performer.

@Blackpaw, I would not take Steve at AEACs comments about keeping everything at 700ish fps as gospel. My Atomic at sub 50 yards has proven accurate at all three TP settings. My Atomic sends CPHPs at 725 fps at the highest TP setting, but has proven accurate (on targets) and deadly (on pests) at the two lower TP levels. We understand that the same Crosmans are traveling way below 700 fps at those settings. So how can it be? In practice it just is, in theory? I don’t care, I observe what happens in practice.

Update: AOA service tech Shane called me today and walked me through possible issues, and please excuse my terminology. I was told the "firing pin" probably needed to be adjusted and to take a long size 3 Allen wrench. I didn't realize the "locking" screw was so loose when I pulled it, so now to find a replacement. Hopefully JackJack the vacuum finds it. Anyways, it is a mute point, the inner assembly is seized with rust. The thing won't budge, see the rag. There is no way to move the pin either direction like the technician told me. This is really getting old. And the paper towel was definitely worse on the first wipes.

Or am I wrong and this is normal?

Well, then I found 3 more....the hammer weight being rusty and the "pin" that hits the valve being rusted to the point you couldn't turn it and bleeding inlet valve.
Will be interesting to hear what AOA has to say… would seem like that one was not inspected before shipping to you. Good luck. Looking forward to your next go around with it.

Well, @L.Leon it took a little effort on my part, but to AOA's credit are making it right. They said, "some times a gun slips through the QC crack, and if it does, it is AOA's job to make it right with the customer", that is almost a quote.

However, based off what Shane the Tech at AOA said in his opinion the Ranger does better with a larger moderator and the phone call Alex (Air Rifle Activities) and I had, I am going to go with the RTI Hush for the moderator. I will also use the Hush on the Prophet II I plan to get near the end of the year.

However, the Ranger will definitely need a shorter scope. @L.Leon you are right, the Athelon just doesn't look right on the Ranger / Atomic.

Shorter scope👍, larger moderator👎. Did Shane explain why in his opinion the Ranger does “what” better with a bigger can? The Donnyfl Tanto I’m running is very backyard and pesting friendly and it’s actually looks big on the gun. I’m contemplating something smaller and would definitely not go larger on my Atomic. Just curious about his take. Hopefully you have your replacement Ranger before the next weekend.
