50 consecutive shots under a dime at 25 meters

Group number one strongly implies to me that the "cold bore" concept applies in the springer world.

The aggregate also shows that the worst shots of the entire 52 (I shot six shots on two of the groups by mistake)... the WORST shots of the entire set were the first five. There is a typo on the aggregate heading... There are only 52 shots on the target.

It doesn't make you shoot better. It is just another way to tie up time shooting.

It seems like that software cost about $30.00. It is buggy and old but it gives me information that I would spend a lot of time pulling off the target. it could be improved but I don't think the developer has many users and he probably has a day job too.

Something here to think about....consider not just the barrel warming up, but the internal air that is compressing. I have been repairing airguns for almost 40 years, retired a few years back due to arthritus in my hands. Folks that reload ammo understand that differences in powder can make a big difference in accuracy of a bullit. How fast or slow it burns makes a hugh difference in the flight of the bullit. Now consider the airgun, the air that we use to propel the pellet can have a serious influence on the pellets tragectory. Cool air or warm air, or humid air vs. dry air, all will make a difference on the pellits trajectory. Yes the barrel getting warmed up will influence the shot but, the condition of the air sucked in during the cocking stroke of a springer or a pump pneumatic will even more greatly influence that pellet in flight. I have experimented numerous times over the years shooting springers in various weather conditions and anytime the air changes so can your impact point, while mabey not a great difference, it will change with the weather!!!

Oh sorry yes the pellets were H&N FTTs which that rifle shoots at 700fps.

There is a guy that frequents this forum who can do it sitting unsupported. I have seen the target. Now that is impressive.

When your post hit the top of the page I looked through it again. Group one really has only one really bad shot. If you look at all your other groups, all the impacts are between the bull’s-eye and the edge of the square. That one single shot is not within that magic circle. It would be interesting to pull just that one out and then run your math. I would bet they are very close to the same. That singular shot looks like 3/10 of an inch outside the rest.

Any chance you remember which shot that was? You hadn’t really established where your point of impact was going to be so you might not remember. Of course I’m wondering if it was your first shot.

And thank you, he was a very pretty old buck. He was fairly petite, and that rack looks much bigger than it is, which I’m fine with. It’s actually about a 140. That was the culmination of a lot of work for me. Work that was fun.

Oh yeah! Look at that neck. That old boy was looking for his harem. Stunning... WELL DONE INDEED. I've passed up a couple like that in my almost 70 years but only because they were beyond my effective range. Once with a bow at about 35 yards (I shoot instinctive). Once with a open bore 20 ga. loaded with buckshot. It patterned about 30" at 20 yards. That old boy was one step the other side of the rock... He figured out I was there and circled me at that distance. Awesome.

We had a big argument on GTA about the idea that a springer could exhibit this behavior. About half my springers do it. Some would say it was me. Maybe. I have not kept a cold bore log in thirty forty years. Darn I am getting old.

That is a pretty big variation though. An inch at 25 yards that's four minutes. So a bit more than a mil. Forty inches at a thousand... BIG miss. I guess in the squirrel murdering business it is a miss (or worse a cripple) at 35 yards for sure.
