Does anyone here hand cast their own big bore slugs ? I’m casting several slugs for .257,.308, .218, .251 .. I am in the market for .510 slug molds . Curious to see what you guys are using .
I have hand casted several diff. .510 slugs wit limited success. Best results thus far has been with the Rebaited Boat-Tails from African Air. I'm still relatively new to hand casting, so still have much to learn.Does anyone here hand cast their own big bore slugs ? I’m casting several slugs for .257,.308, .218, .251 .. The biggest thing for me is weighing each one into the prevailing weight class .. and it’s painstaking for those little .218 40 grain slugs I’m use to . So I’d like to branch out to some .50 cal stuff mostly hollow points to hunt with .. and they are less finicky about weight .. I have all the dies for sizing them from .495-.513 just no molds unfortunetlyI have hand casted several diff. .510 slugs wit limited success. A Lee .515 2 cavity mold 450 grain will get you started..My best mold is a NOE 450 Grain Gas Check design...I also have Accurate molds that shoot good..Can give you slugs before you buy a mold to see if they shoot..The biggest thing for me is weighing each one into the prevailing weight class .. and it’s painstaking for those little .218 40 grain slugs I’m use to .
