$6k to Spend on Purchasing the Airgun of Your Dreams

Not so difficult to get there.

But if somebody would ask you: will you give me 6k if I provide you with enought elements to kill pigeons?, difficully somone would answer "of course".

So, the substance is that we see more in an air rifle, scope and equipment, that the value we give to the preys we can get with them.

........

........

Maybe, maybe, we find in the PCP´s a continuous challenge to ourself.

Just got off the phone with Thomas of Thomas Air Rifles. His rifes are high powerd, not sub-12 or 10 meter. The one he shoots sends 40gr .177 cal slugs at high power, the worlds best rifle right now. Thomas has been winning all the championships world wide. The slug rifle is $5000 but you get a die with it that makes the slugs.

10 month wait for a Thomas.

For clarification it's his HPX model that is the high power version. It's his 22 cal, not 17 cal, that he's made a slug rifle with dies. These are single shot target and BR rifles just so people know. He orders custom high quality barrels for the HPX made specifically to his specifications. The trigger in mine is as good as a trigger gets! 3oz with FEEL, a VERY crisp snap which is hard to do in a trigger this light.

Just incredible rifles. I absolutely love mine, so much so that I ordered the FT version. Other than mine and my wife's Mac 1 USFT's, and my bud's borrowed Daystate Safari, "EVERY" high end pcp I've owned has fallen short and for not just one reason.

i would NOT spend more than 'one' grand on a pellet gun lol .. i'd rather have several and some jam-up support equipment .. its a freakin pellet gun for petes sake lol, and i feel the need to try to impress nobody with one .. it just has to get the job done and i get into having a very functional operation set up .. not just a fancy glam gun to show out which for all intents and purposes will do nothing a marauder wont do .. but but but mu swugs go farder .. yeah sure they do .. so does my 99$ walmart .22lr ...

Can't speak for others... But personally, having a nice(r) airgun isn't about trying impress of the peanut-gallery... It's about interest, priorities and wake makes you happy

  • In the big scheme of things, $6k isn't all that much.
    • Don't buy another new car every 4-5 years and you'll save that much... the 1st year alone

I think we first have to better understand your dreams.

Rarity?

Beauty?

Competition? (If so, what type?)

Fun?

Hunting?

Long-range?

Re-sale?

There is no single airgun that could fill all of these roles.

The closest for ME would be a Whiscombe springer.

Buy a Vulcan 2 in .25 Cal or a Uragan in .25 Cal and with the spring of the hammer you can switch the same rifle from a small bird hunter or target shooter to a hard hitting hunter up to coyote or jabalina.

All those adjustments can be made with just two allen wrenches and less than two minutes, one to unscrew the stock; .30 seconds to make the movement on the spring; and 30 seconds to re-screw and mount the stock.

It’s an intentionally open ended question. You, the reader, define your own dreams in this context. Variance is expected in the replies as we value products differently and use our guns for myriad applications and reasons. Quite naturally there will be limitations for some due to the constraints of a $6k budget.

If I had money to spend right now...

- Air Arms Pro-Sport in 177

- Leupold EFR in gloss

- Custom walnut stock from Gary Cane, in fancy walnut with checkering, in a mannlicher style

A nice leather case

And plenty of pellets...

I like that call. The only thing I'd do differently is make the rifle a TX200 LH Walnut and Gary Cane stock wouldn't be my choice although he does stunning work. I think I'd probably have the thing tuned by a really fine tuner and the optic would likely be in the $500 to $800 range. The money I saved would go to something wifey wanted. I don't need anything better than that because I would never be able to do it justice anyway. I like to shoot but I am not a world class competitor ... just not ... and I am old. Maybe put that extra coin into more BTC and give that to the kids.

now that you put it this way I just ordered my dream rifle, the FX crown GRS. It certainly ain’t cheap but far from the most expensive.

what makes it my dream rifle(for a while)?

1. Flexibility: I have 6 barrels it can use, enough power to shoot Anything i want

2. more accurate than I can shoot

3. easy to tune and change tune

4. quiet and ability to tune has a lot to do with it

5. the GRS stock: most rifles above 1000 are very accurate but how the rifle feels and help the shoot to be more accurate is the next step and the GRS stock is known for that.

the gun is $2200, scope $400, other parts $300? Already have Compressor and bottle so I still got enough left for an Impact build! Being a value shopped I don’t need the most most expensive so I can have more toys to enjoy.

I don't buy my guns for anyone but myself. Can careless what anyone else thinks about what I have. But I started with an Mrod as alot of people did and shot it for a very long time and modded it to the max. Absolutely there are differences between them and what a higher end gun can do. Lean your marauder up against the corner in the safe then go shoot it. Find out just how off your POI is. Now go run an Edgun over and see the POI doesn't change. Or my EVOL gets bumped all the time and has yet to change POI. And that's just one tiny aspect of it let alone the accuracy and consistency day in and day out and many other things.

So good for you - do you feel it prudent to mock other's and their choices to get your point across though?

Think about it - maybe, just maybe - you are a cheapskate. Personally you wouldn't find me dead shooting a POS $99 Walmart gun.

I did it already.

But now I will go with what @steve123 has.

Agree 100% with you buddy no need to mock people for spending $ on what they love, no one is mocking people because they can't afford to buy something or won't spend $, be positive.

Thanks B - I don't mean to be a jerk about it. But how does dizzums feel when I tell him his Walmart pride is a POS?

This was supposed to be a fun how would you spend your money thread, and yet again all it takes is a few jerks who get their jolly's ruining others fun.

God I hate the f'ing Internet. (And that from someone who's been doing IT since before the Internet was the Internet - if you've ever used NCSA Mosaic, know what browser it was the predecessor of, and what college town it was developed in be the first to post it here and I'll send you a tin of pellets of your choice - and be honest - no looking it up on said Internet)

They should make your drivers license be displayed next to your posts - that would shut a lot of blow hards up real quick.

Now - back to spending your imaginary $6K.
