My brother gifted me a Yong Heng 7H-QB01 compressor that he picked up for $10 at a garage sale. I set it up and I'm not getting any pressure to build up. The steel lines heat up like I figure they should for compressing air, but after 10 minutes of running there was no change on the pressure gauge. It's not making any weird noise compared to the ones I watch on YouTube, so I was wondering if anyone had advise on what to check for on it.

You have a leak somewhere most likely. The sealing washer atop the cylinder on that output line is one place they may leak.

Yong Heng (Model YH-QB01) should have come with test plug; garage sale might not have included. Search, "PCP test plug," on eBay, you can find a version for under $10. Does the compressor metal ID plate list YongyIheng Pneumatic Company like one pictured? If so, you've an authentic which is best for finding repair parts, if needed. WM

A common place for leaks is the dowty seal (bonded metal washer) at the very top of HP cylinder where the nut of the HP metal tubing screws onto that cylinder. Also check the burst disc. In both cases soapy water spray will help determine this and BOTH are very easy fixes.

I can attest to the burst disk issue, I currently have a blown one after 2 years of us on mine. 14mm wrench, EZPZ.

Are the drain screws in tight? Being a garage sale find, maybe they aren’t even with the compressor?

Good question, it DID NOT have the original screws, whoever had it used some Allen head screws. I should probably order some replacements.

If the screws have been replaced you should remove them and make sure the seals are in good shape. Good chance the screws were cranked way to much.

It's been awhile, life gets in the way of fun! QUESTION: on the "safe release valve" the shaft is stuck in the out position. When I put it in a vice or squeeze with pliers, the shaft will move in, then spring back out. That's not how it supposed to work is it? Shouldn't it be in as far as possible, and only pop out when it exceeds a set pressure?

That valve does not pop up, if you pull up on the ring, it releases any pressure, it may also act as an over pressure safety valve.

Are you still chaseing the leak, or did you get it resolved?
If its still leaking, check the tips of your drain release screws.
The originals are pointed or rounded , and the tip enters a very small hole inside a hard, teflon-like seal.
Your Allen head replacement screws, might NOT have pointed or rounded tips, and could be leaking as a result.
