Tuning 85’s groaning the Blues

Gaulling is typically a metal grinding sound, sometimes a a sound more like a sick Duck, can be a dry piston seal. Best to pull it out of stock and look inside, you may have to go thru a partial cocking stroke to see/ hear what the issue might be. If your handy with tools, not that big of a job to do a home made tune. We never know for sure whether they will be sent to usvwith to much or to little lube. Always better to replace the factory crap with good quality lubes anyhow !!

I'd bet it's lubed well enough, but it's the spring rotating on cocking with rough ends.

A teardown, proper lube with a good moly, smoothing the spring ends and a well fitting piston seal will work wonders. A properly fitting piston sleeve will take out a lot of the twang, and you can make one at home.

OR........

Pop in a kit from Air Rifle Headquarters for smooth cocking and a nice shot cycle without increasing cocking effort.

....but you'll probably buy a Vortek for whatever reason.

Either way, don't squirt crap down the transfer port despite what recommendations you read on the internet. It's a recipe for inconsistency.
