Air Venturi 950-1000 fps

Yeah. speeds are only a general guideline, the sweet spot can differ a bit even if you compare 2 identical rifles.

If you are not in a good speed place for a given ammo, you will often see 2-3 shots be pretty damn good, but then the 4 and 5 shot will deviate from that, and so if you click for those deviations you just end up chasing POI. ( this not necessary in that order )
So you might see shot 1 - 3 and 5 be good but 2 and 4 are off, any order really, but me shooting .177 slugs too fast ( 1050 fps ) did most often give me 2 shots in a row that was bang on. dropping to around 970 gave me much better 5 shot groups.

Better to look for a more suited speed where all 5 shots in a group are more consistent POI

In my dark raging mind i do call a speed of around 970 fps for " the Zan speed " as that brand ( slugs ) seem ti like speeds around that, no matter caliber.

I also learned on my 700 mm barrel Maverick that even if i could shoot those good speeds at a low pressure of 70 BAR, shooting them with a 90 BAR setting was better, i never figured out why it was like that.

I have not, but that's really fast for pellets. Typically pellets flourish in the 800 - 900 FPS range, though some can stabilize a bit higher. Are you referring to pellets or slugs? The latter can typically be pushed 950 - 1000 FPS.
So can this be taken the other way as well? If heavier slugs do better at higher speed would lighter pellets perform better at say sub 800

So I may have already found my answer after watching a video of a guy shooting in the 600fps range and it appears that the pellets were tumbling. His strikes on paper looked elongated rather than circular.
Can anyone confirm this for me?

Half of my guns shoot below 700. I find no tumbling. But the way I see it that speed is not practical for over 30 yards or so, which is why I run wadcutters in those guns.
10 meter guns always shoot slow, 400-600 with extreme accuracy.

It is harder to stabilize pellets speeds above 900. Search Ballisticboy’s posts.

Michael, have Ballisticboy’s posts been stickyed somewhere? They are priceless.
