I realize this is for the good here and it is ok with me but to have to try 9 times in a row is a bit maddening

Are you guys on mobile or PC? I had to go through the process once yesterday and that was it. I'm on my phone though.

I made 2FA optional this yesterday. If you logged in while 2FA was turned on, and you do not want to use it, simply go to Password & Security and turn it off.
The email verification is almost worthless if a scammer already has access to your email. The 2FA via an Authenticator app works flawlessly and exceptionally well. You only get prompted once a month for the verification code.
