A Guide for Shot Placement (Reference Picture Thread)

Always seeing threads about where to shoot?🤔Can't figure out what's inside your target critter? Look no farther!! These will be posts of anatomy for studying shot placements. Threw in some to start; bird, mouse, frog, squirrel, deer, iguana *some that I see alot about but;
Please feel free to post diagrams and what not here for studying and learning!

Thanks for this.
I now see why so many pigeons gave flown away. Its not the gun or the projectile 22 for me and 25 for my buddy.
Most shots are to the top of a silo so shooting up.
Been shooting over the vitals and hitting the crop.

We kill plenty DRT but are always surprised when one flies away from a seemingly good shot.

Yes, as you see the vitals are closer to the back, with the meat being the front third or more of the bird. This is true with most all meaty game birds even. If you are eating them breasteses, shoot the broadside birds a little lower than you'd think and back away from the meat.

Thanks for those amazing images. I wish I would have had those when I was teaching bowhunters safety classes.

You are welcome Doc. I found the bear, and subsequently the deer autopsy pictures years ago when studying their anatomy for archery shot placement.

That's why this thread exists; studying your target and whatnot in and out helps alottt🤗🎩🤙

"Breasteses" I love it, haven't said that in a few years.

We are pesting at a few farms and most shots are 54 to 80 yds to the tops of silos at a 45 or 50 degree angle. We usually take straight on shots and been thinking the keelbone was the problem but always figured my 35 fpe 22 and my buddies Veteran in 25 at over 55 fpe should have no problem with that.
Never occurred to me we were shooting right over the vitals some times.

We have not eaten any of the pigeon breasteses yet, haven't gotten past the image of these birds as
"filthy" that I grew up with. Haven't eaten starling either.
I'm sure some time I will try it, I ate groundhog, Elk heart and whitetail heart for the first time in the last year and really enjoyed all three so...
