A new, SERIOUS air pistol from Sig!

My buddy Jerry Cupples (inventor of the PelletGage) called to chat today, and mentioned in passing that none other than SIG has a new single-stroke pneumatic .177 air pistol. Finding that out of character for Sig Air (so far), I went online and found it not only true, but a nice-looking SSP complete with a match grade, multi-adjustable trigger... and apparently now available! FWIW, this is quite a departure from Sig's typical Co2 powered, firearms-replica air pistols. I like it!

Having decades ago tied the NRA Air Pistol national record (of 39/40) with an FAS 604 SSP, and also owned 2 Beeman P-2 SSP pistols that I liked quite a lot, Sig just got my attention in a big way! Suffice to say I'll be watching for a good deal on this exciting new Sig SSP pistol.

Could an SSP rifle be coming, too?


 
A of A sent an email out a week or so about it and it is a nice looking pistol and in the price range of a FAS 6004

but the power was fairly low with it listed at up to 350 FPS

so is the new SIG late to the party and how many SSP do you need

but as I say it is a buy to try world but it will take awhile to see any on the secondary market and for me I'm get old and my stable is very full

love to see a real test with 7gr pellets

Hey guys,

I’m interested in ONE decent SSP pistol for when it’s too windy outside. Right now, 25*F, shooting, fun. No wind. Wind? I’m just going to have to be inside as I can’t take that cold. 
Out of the SSP’s which has the finest sights and trigger? Best power for 8.44’s at no more than 20 yards? Say to double as a English Sparrow whacker.

I’ve had a Daisy 717, HW Silver Star, P17, that CO2 Berreta John Bagakis had won. Honestly I liked the P17 & Daisy most. P17 had a red dot. Daisy plastic sights sucked but I was 12. $40 at Laneco food five & dime.

One thing is I’m not paying more for a lefty grip. Not able to sell anything lefty easily. I’m left eye dominant but ambidextrous grip or using left eye & right hand works for me as I am right handed. Just have to turn head a little & use an awkward reverse stance. I shoot with both eyes open no matter what, so ambidextrous is preferable so I don’t have to. 
Any advice from the masters appreciated and if any cheap P17’s with worked trigger are available please feel free to make offers.

I saw the Sig, link worked for me. The FAS looks nice but will I need front sight milled thinner for perfection? I’d like nice, but P17 is ok for basement plinking when bored. More accurate power would be great.

in reality there are few SSP pistols and adding one is not a bad thing

I seem to have many Daisy 717 hybrid, HW 40 - P17 - P 2 - HW 75 - Gamo Compact - FAS 6004 - IZH 46m

so which has the best trigger, that's easy the 46m, the HW 75 and FAS 6004 are tied and down from there

you can improve the HW 40 - P 17 and Compact triggers with a new screw and in the Compacts case a little piece of something to remove the trigger take up, if you have one and watch the trigger work you will understand

sure there are better trigger out there but few pistol that look like a handguns that are SSP, a 46m is a pistol but not a handgun to me

just my opinion no more no less

I didn't mean to say that the link didn't work. It did work, and I did read the description, but the SigSauer day banner for this weekend popped up as well. Not an issue, just an aside. I'll be interested in reading any review Tom Gaylord does but I still have the question of what the SigSauer pistol provides above the AV V10. I don't have a V10, just noting that it costs $100 less and delivers the same velocity. As to quality, I have no idea of the comparison between the two but a direct comparison should be interesting for anyone considering such a pistol.

the V10 or compact as they used to be are all plastic in frame and top and if you can get one used in the under 150.00 range buy it

now the numbers on the SIG aren't that good, down right disappointing really, to me

I always hope that a SSP will shoot at or above 400 FPS with a 7gr pellet and the SIG is 60 feet short of that

the idea that you have to do a third of a cock and a full one to get a 5gr pellet to 400+fps makes it not a SSP pistol but a double stroke and a Alecto would eat it's lunch

so it's a nice looking pistol, with nice sight, material makeup of the pistol looks first rate, grips are wood, trigger seem to be first rate but no power

the first thing I thought was could the piston be shimmed to make sure that all the air is compressed but that was SIG"s job

so for me, there is no reason a brand new pistol can't perform better, I know it's a target pistol but I have target pistols that shoot over 400 fps

I'm not in the market for a 10 meter pistol, just trying to compare the newer Sig to the older V10. It's hard to put a value on something that someone else might need. Someone wanting (or needing) a 10 meter pistol might well value the V10 above an arbitrary $150 (and might value the possibly better constructed Sig at it's asking price) but your point on materials and velocities is agreed. It seems that the Sig has more adjustment (possibly better) for the trigger and the overall construction might well be valuable to some. Still, the plastic P17 seems to function well at the same relative power level and the sights on the V10 seem to be pretty good. And that begs the question, to me, as to what would make the Sig superior. The Sig seems like it is probably a fine pistol to own if the power level is acceptable to the shooter but is it superior overall to the V10? I don't know, especially at $100 additional cost. Hopefully someone will do a direct comparison to benefit those searching for such a pistol.
