A Squirrel Quandary

Oh it just absolutely figures. was out on a bike ride with the grand kids, trying to live long enough to be a problem to them, call it pay back. Anyway we went to the local High School Ag Farm, in Santa Clara Valley Ca. and what do I see but...Ground Squirrel holes and 4 damn squirrels in with the chickens. Of course I didn't have an airgun with me and shooting though a chain link fence isn't optimum AND I did mention chickens. I'm not going to stand by the side of the road with a airgun. I could park there and shoot out of my car but I'm really afraid of hitting a link and hitting a kids chicken. Open to suggestions.

Speak with the superintendent; they could possibly setup a deal with you to pest them🤷‍♂️

yeah, I doubt that'll work, mention "gun" and that'd be the end of it. It's not really optimal, during the day the chickens are free reign, they lock them up at night, there are homes right behind the farm so quiet is the key and of course making sure no ricochets, I'd need to use my .177 Daisy 717 and non-lead pellets to avoid pass thru. My ideal one would be my Sapsan, it's set up with a red dot for short range but I've never tried it with non-lead. Oh well, they'll get them trapped before the damage really hits....maybe.

I'm looking at these...

Polymag Air Gun Pellets .22 Caliber, GTO Lead Free 11.75 gr.

Or I simply don't sweat the details and not go looking for the little suckers. Where I normally go is private land so I can splatter lead all over, especially seeing as I have to reach out 100 yards or more.

I've looked.into those. Bit pricey but I've seen people swear by them🤷‍♂️

Well,I'll have some in tomorrow or Friday, and see how they go. Not for everyday plinking that's for sure.
Let us knowwwww!🤪🤙 if they work; it's great to have a lead free option available; I've ran into people saying ohh lead...and I go oh yea? I have(and they make) lead free too🤨and then all of a sudden are interested bc they weren't aware😅🤷‍♂️🤪🤙

I'm 99% sure you ain't gonna reach out with a light weight pellet. Sadly, I'm limited to 25 yards currently, my tomato plants are in the way and they are more important. Ok, at least not a light pellet that isn't screaming along at 2400fps.

All of my pesting done(when i KNEW recovery would not be 100%) inside city limits(when I was allowed) was done with lead free. I still have some😅

Ok, here is my normal in-depth review.
Predator GTO 11.75 gr,

Maverick .22 Compact 2nd reg. 83.07bar,

Pellets, rolled on microfiber towel with beeswax furniture polish,

1016 average speed, 27.1 # energy,

2.7 SD, Power Wheel 5, note: didn't make a lick of difference between 5 & 7, slower actually got worse, 16 shots, actually more but this is the final group.

25ish yards, light breeze, 3-5mph directly at me.

I was using a bipod on front, shoulder on back

My impression is that they'll do the job, it'll be fun to try them at 50 yards
