Very interesting....were you planning to swim out and retrieve the bird? I, too love trying extremely long shots, though I don't try for live targets when doing so.

Where I'm from, shooting at animals just to see if you can hit them (not humanely kill it) is considered unsportsman like and in this case illeagle!

At the extreme range of a 'Hail Mary" another vote for bad judgement, a clay pigeon would have been a more suitable target

I had a boat as standby.If it had hit the ducks I would've searched the whole place.I also have a landing net.To capture the birds.
