AAA Evol .22 standard questions.

They come tuned for that load. Mine is detuned and shoots the JSB 15.89gr pellets at 909fps and is crazy accurate. It gets 90+ shots on a fill. I have only tried a couple slugs and they did not perform great at my lower power tune. I think the newer standard 22s comes with a TJ barrel that does better with slugs from what I have read.

My EVOL 30 shoots the FX Hybrid slugs very well. The 30 makes a lot more noise and only gets about 27 shots per fill.

Awesome, do they tune like a regular regulator and hammer spring? clockwise increase and counter decrease pressure?

They seem like awesome guns and very simple to work on.

Sure.
Detuned (slowed the pellet fps) my Mini, .22 a coupla weeks back. Works as expected.

BUT, to get to the regulator, you need to by the high priced barrel removal tool, OR...make up something yourself. Or possibly I suspect the special tool for the suppressor mount on the end of the barrel MAY...also give access to removing the air tube.

Are they pretty loud when tuned for the MRD’s?

I’ll share my experiences with you. I have had a 15” EVOL for about 7-8 months. This past weekend was the first time I got a chance to stretch it out to 50 yards and I was pleased. Unfortunately a had a terrible short raised bench at the range so couldn’t get into any good shooting position. Keeping that in mind I was able to keep my groups with MRDs inside of an inch and even managed a bunch of 8 or 9 shots that grouped around 1/2 inch. I think if the bench was a proper low seated BR one I would have been relaxed instead of all hunched over and more consistent.

Will reply with some more in a bit when I get home.

I have a 15" EVOL and took it out last weekend. Here are some of my stats:
NSA 24.8gr .217 avg 872 FPS @ 42.9 FT lbs
JSB 25.39gr RD avg 870 FPS @ 42.7 FT lbs
JBS 18gr avg 977 FPS @ 38.1 Ft lbs

At 25 yards all of them shot good groups 1/2"
At 50 yards I was surprised that the NSA actually had the best groups followed by the redesigns and then the 18 gr grouping was ~5/8"

I was using a bipod on the front and my bag on the rear so the gun was pretty stable ( I'm shaky as s##t so I need steading!) These are good groupings for me. With someone more stable I believe they would have been even tighter. I'm really enjoying the gun so far. Trying to resist the "tuning" impulse!
I did swap out the standard moderator for a Huggett Snipe, which really reduced the sound level. It threw my POI way off, but that was expected. I put the original moderator back on and will probably hunt with it as if the game is further than 25 yards, the sound will not be noticeable. It's too loud for the back yard, but not by much.

Some more details:
LOUDNESS - I find that ootb EVOLs are tuned on the higher end and at the peak of the stock reg setting. As @Airgun-hobbyist mentioned - when tuned at this point it is wasting some air and is louder than it needs to be. You can turn the hammer spring back a bit and quiet the rifle down as well as get a little bit more efficiency. You should still be able to maintain around 40 fpe with the MRDs with the stock reg setting. The EVOL will not be quiet at 40 fpe, it still has some pop to it and would not be backyard friendly for my area. That said, the STO insert and shroud do a tremendous job of quieting things down. It would take a DonnyFL adapter and a much bigger can to get it quieter.

I wanted to get the MRDs up in the 900 fps range so I tuned my reg up to 2200psi and I'm shooting around 45.5fpe. At that setting I'm getting a little over 2 mags from a 3800-4000psi fill while still on reg, but I just refill after every two mags.

At that setting I am also shooting the NSA 23gr .217 slugs @ 940fps. They appear to be doing very well but haven't been able to stretch them out with a clean barrel. After about 2-300 slugs the barrel needs a really good cleaning and accuracy starts to diminish.

TUNING - If you plan to do any tuning I highly recommend you get the AAA EVOL tools. While the barrel shroud tensioner and air gauge removal tool are not a necessity, I feel the barrel spanner is. Pricey at $100 but very high quality and the only way you will be able to loosen the barrel to remove it. For any tuning you MUST remove the barrel in order to remove the air tube to adjust the reg. Don't sweat that though as the barrel threads are so fine and deep into the receiver that you'll maintain your zero over multiple removals.

STOCKS & GRIPS - Fully AR compatible. I like a big fat grip so I've swapped the ERGO angled Suregrip onto mine. I installed, as many seem to do for BR, a MagPul PRS Gen 3 stock and love how it feels.

SCOPE MOUNTING - You can't use a 1 piece mount due the mag well. I am using the Seekins 1.26" Extra High rings on mine and it give a great cheek weld with plenty of mag clearance.

Pretty typical performance for 5 round groups at 40 yards in good conditions shot prone. I was shooting 15.89gr JSBs in my reduced power EVOL 22.

@ctshooter I still have mine set at 2000 PSI. I haven't kicked for the tools yet as I'm still enjoying the factory settings. I'm sure I will eventually get them for a bit of tuning. I agree that I will need to adjust the hammer spring a bit which will cut down on any air wasting. I haven't done any grip or stock mods yet as the stock ones are comfortable to me. I went with a set of EagleVision Infinity adjustable mounts in 34mm as I mounted an Element Titan 5-30x56 scope on the EVOL. So far I have been pleased with the rig. Quality goes withou8t saying!

As @ctshooter mentioned, I believe I will need to work on the hammer tension for the 18 gr JSBs. The 25 redesigns work well as it is, and the 18s are ok but my POI moves quite a bit, so I really don't "switch" between the 18s and 25s a lot. I can shoot the NSAs and the Redesigns with almost no change in POI - maybe just a click or 2 on the scope for the difference. Nothing like the 18s.

I haven't take it out hunting yet, but at it's current settings its louder than my BRK XR Sniper with a 0db moderator - which scares no game at all! I would guess that if I'm at 15 to 25 yards, if I miss the game will be running! With my .177 and moderator I get a couple of chances because it's so quite!

You're spot on with how the Evol performs with any of the calibers. I turned my reg up to 2300 or so also, and have a good bit of hammer spring adjustment, both up and down. It is set hot and I only get two good mags, but I can get three easily with a couple of turns out on the spring.

The barrel lug removal tool is priceless, a piece of art in it's design. If your into experimenting with barrel tension for tuning, the barrel/shroud nut removal tool is a good thing to get as well. I've taken the barrel components completely apart, cleaned and re-assembled it with very little change in point of impact.

As far as scope mounting goes, if you have the extended rail design like mine, there a couple of nice one piece cantilever mount options available. The Leupold Mark AR mount works well and is repeatable in re-assembly. However, as you can see from the picture, it needs a portion removed to clear the magazine. I cut it off with a hack saw and filed it square. Alternatively, but more expensive, the Nightforce mounts go right on. They are also repeatable in re-assembly. With Tom's built-in 50 moa rail on the Evol, just get a 0-moa mount. Any additional moa and the scope may be too far out of adjustment to even zero at closer ranges.

MRD...please explain.
I removed the original "mitigator" (my new use, more accurate word), and installed a Huma Mod40, two section. Doesn't add much length, but this and the lower power output, softens the sound a bit more than the factory mitigator, even with just the lower power output.

@Calibama22 - you have a few posts above with the scope rings and mounts! @Airgun-hobbyist likes the single mount and I have 2 mounts. As he mentioned above, the biggest problem is getting a single to fit correctly and in my case mounts that are high enough to allow the magazine in. I normally always install "adjustable" mounts on my air guns to allow for longer range adjustments and preserve scope elevation adjustment so I have as many available as I can.

I’m gonna go adjustable as well just to be safe.
