American Air Arms AAA Evol question

Last I heard they were doing some redesigns to the platform of the EvoLs. This was some time back. I would at least email Airguns of AZ. Better yet give them a call. But you might be on hold for a while. I just go down there myself, as I am just down the road from them. So if thats an option that would be the best one. I personally have the Mini, the HPS, and the Magnon. Fine airguns they are. You wont be disappointed when you get your hands on one.

New PCP'S seem to be more powerful and more tunable.

Are Evol out of date?
Honestly I think there more of a field gun. They are likely the most well-built airgun out there when it comes to durability. Thats just me going off of the abuse videos I have seen. I would never drag mine behind a truck or toss it over a cliff. I would not really call it out of date. Though airguns are evolving rapidly. Those electronic airguns and floated barrel airguns just wont hold a candle to the abuse that an EvoL can take. I think in this case airguns with more built-in features are more likely to have failures and issues in the field. I could be wrong but I think that they were originally built for rough out in the field use. They also have very few o-rings. The air tube is made of titanium where most are steel, aluminium, or have a bottle. By no means am I saying that other airguns are not designed with heavy field use in mind, I just personally feel that American air Arms builds and designs them with hunting first. Also that trigger is dam nice. I have several airguns and have gotten rid of a fair amount as well. EvoLs for what they are, are hard to beat. My favorite airgun is actually my EvoL mini. I actually picked up a Western Mordax a few weeks back. Much easer to adjust the power but I still feel that the EvoL mini for example is overall a better airgun. Please understand Im not trying to be biased in any way. This is just my opinion. I have a love for airguns and have for a good many years. Airguns are for sure getting more powerful. EvoLs are tuneable and you can get a good amount of power out of them. Sure not as much as some but at the same time more then others. Really just depends on what your needing the airgun for. I am curious what the new EvoLs will be like.

For my use. I don't need more power or for an air rifle to be more tunable. With each of my airguns I have found a pellet that works for that particular guns use. A few years ago I went to buy a 15" Evol AOA didnt have one and I came home with a paradigm. Nice gun but I dont shoot it like I would the shorter evol.

Are Evol out of date?
Not out of date… they have justifiable and verifiable good reputations. They are field gun as stated by @Elbowgrease … Many have been sold on endless adjustments and finger fondling as being necessary to enjoy a simple thing…🙏 Simple is simply great in many instances…

I am really just wondering if anyone has heard that some of the Evols specifically the 15" is not going to be made. Or if the replacements may be coming out soon
I just looked on the AoA website. They currently have 3 listed. One of them is of the newer version. The 30 EvoL. Read through the description. It has the externally adjustable regulator. The other two do not. I would call AoA ad see what they say.

@Emu As for the older Evol being out of date, that would depend on what you'd compate it to, and how and why. Around a decade ago, most airguns had very little in the way of tuning adjustments built into them. (Which incidentally is when the Evol made its first showing). Then came the modern airgun era with several, and then several more, tuning aids. These tuning aids were engineered out of necessity to keep extreme spread close and to lessen harmonics with some manufacturer's more "delicately" built gun's. With that came the "tunability" marketing hype, which has evolved and "super-tuning" is now is more of a demand by the buyer. The Evol has never needed these types of marketing strategies because wat is engineered robust and for accuracy.

The Evol build quality boasts that is does not need much in the way of a need for harmonic tuning other than finding a compatable projectile for the barrel, just as is required for any airgun. I've got an 18" Evol 30 that will fling about a 2 moa group with all kinds of different ammo with no adjustments, and will tune down to 1 moa group with pellets. (They are a pellet or light slug rifled gun after all.) I'd say that's pretty good for something that only "needs" a regulator adjustment to suit the user's desired shot count and then some hammer spring adjustment to control velocity. These new Evol's are more powerful and will tune even better than the "old stock" and will still likely be a "set it and forget it" airgun.

Yes @L.Leon , simple, efficient, and accurate is a great thing.

Dont discount the EvoL mini. I have cleanly taken out pigeons and collard doves out to 127 yards. I shoot them on average between 36-104 yards. Im using JSB 18s in it. Its nice and compact as well.

I have been checking AOA for anew 15" Evol. until recently they would take a deposit on one. But that option has been removed. Are they going to drop the 15"? Anyone in the know have an idea? I have emailed Tom but never heard back. I may need to set my eyes on another or look used.

thanks
If you're after an Evol Magnon 30, I'd suggest you buy it. They didn't make many. They are a nice light hunter, good for two to three magazines of shots on reg depending on the tune. Because of the short barrel length they are not a powerhouse, but they are an efficient and accurate small game gun, shooting around 75 pfe. (I've got both in legth's in 30 cal, and like the useful nature of the Magnon because squirrels expire just as easily with 75 pfe as with 99 pfe.)

The Magnon might be hard to find now. I consider myself lucky to have one. It is compact for what it is. Not like the mini but it still is perfect for the bush considering the size. I have a DonnyFL Ronan on mine so is adds just a bit to the length. Not really noticeable. I actually picked mine up used for about $800 less the new price at AoA. When I was purchasing it the guy who had it just happened to be down there getting a DonnyLF Fatboy. He said he did not even put a tin through it. Decided it was more then he needed. At the time you could still get them new.

about how many shots do you get? I am planning on a 22 and would desire to shoot 18 grain JSB’s. Most shots under 60 with occasional out to 100

I had an Evol. I wouldn’t classify it as an out of date PCP. I would classify it as the firearm of the PCP world. The fact that its not equipped with knobs and screws or pushing power limits is partially responsible for why it’s so rock solid. If it sits for a year, when you shoot it again it’s the same gun. If you accidentally step on it or even use it as a club, it’s unfazed. So it’s basically for the guy who isn’t into PCP drama, chasing tunes and just likes to hit where he’s aiming all the time.

Great deal on a used one if you dont want to wait.

In a three year period, I owned about every high end PCP made except electronic models. By far, the Evol and Paradigm were my favorites. They are built like tanks. I especially liked the tensioned barrels. FX makes fine airguns but what bothered me on them was the airgap between the shroud and the receiver. At that point on the gun it’s the straw barrel. I feel they miss an opportunity to add barrel stiffness by having the receiver end of the barrel shroud not manufactured so it is mechanically attached to the receiver. Daystate shrouds butt up against the receiver but is not mechanically attached…I think. BUT, I must say, both of their airgun lines are incredible performers and I enjoyed them very much while I owned them. I sold two of my FX Crowns to a member on AGN and he improved its accuracy much beyond the factory settings that I never changed.

Tom confirmed at the end of December on HAM that the 15” Evol will continue exactly the same as the old version, except it will have an externally adjustable reg
