Add texture to your slippery synthetic stocks

I hate synthetic stocks , especially during the humid summers here on long island . Here's a neat trick I found a few years back on my m-rod (just did my p-rod in brown) that helped keep a comfortable grip on it .

I sanded down the stock with 220 sand paper removing all the casting marks and "stock" texture. Primed with rust-oleum ultracover white primer (made for plastic) , painted with rust-oleum multicolor textured paint .

The finish feels like light sand paper and works amazing even when im sweating or if it's damp out .

One thing I have done to texture smooth plastic surfaces is to place coarse sandpaper on the surface and tap it with a hammer. This doesn't always work well as it seems to depend on the specific blend of plastic, but it does often work. It creates more of a slight dimpling effect but it's often enough to improve grip.

I was thinking about doing that , but I wasn't sure how well it work ... + I'm sure it would be b*tch to sand out if I didn't like it

I have that paint, but I have not tried it yet.

Thank you for posting it, sir, as it certainly looks so much better than bedliner paint

Your welcome man !

Only down side to this paint is it only comes in 3 colors local to my home depot ... they have a nice green color I want to try ... guess the next rifle I buy I definitely will be ordering it

I've also used the bed liner paint on one rifle stock and a pistol grip. Just enough "grip" texture.

The nice thing that I see over the textured paint, is that the bed liner paint is easy to clean. Just a quick wipedown, vs. a hosing off to get all the nooks and crannies clean.

But I can see where a few coats of clear would seal the textured paint to make much easier to keep free of dirt, dead skin, etc.

Might try some myself.
