ADMINISTRATORS: Since there seems to be so many Newbie questions....

Perhaps it might be enlightening to have anyone new to the site take a minor test that involves the site "RULES".
It need not be too intrusive but would allow the site management, along with everyone constantly answering questions, to free up time taken to explain over and over again.
It's obvious that that the rules are not read from the posts asking questions that the rules already cover.
Perhaps simply take the most asked questions and create a small test to assure that the rules are understood by answering those questions.
1.) How many posts are required to allow a Classifieds Forum post?
2.) Is it allowable to directly PM a seller in the Classifieds Forum?
3.) How many posts are required to allow a PM to another member?
4.) Should you introduce yourself to the site?
5.) Should you be considerate to other site users?
6.) Is foul language allowed within any post?
7.) Is any firearm discussion allowed within any post?
Finally, do you agree to the terms and rules of this site?
Too much to ask?

Except no one reads them, I call this phenomenon the salad bowl experiment…

I used to live with a bunch of guys. I’d always cook so I never had to clean. Also some of them were garbage cooks so I didn’t want them trying to assemble a meal anyway and everyone enjoyed my cooking…

I’d make a bowl of salad every night. If I left it in a bowl in the middle of the table, maybe 2 or 3 people out of 10 would have any. If I made the bowl of salad and then put a scoop on everyone’s plate before they even sat down, 8 or 9 people would eat all the salad.

You literally have to shove something in front of people’s faces for high percentage compliance.

I think he was implying that it's been tried and probably beaten to death so why try again. You can't fix stupid or in this case you can lead the horse to water or some other analogy.

I guess the mods mainly wait for someone to report an issue before they step in. Makes sense, they can't hover like a helicopter all day long, they work too and have lives.

Ok, wait while I don my flame suit.
I think this post is condescending and demeaning to new people. Everyone is new at some point and the OP may have forgotten when he was new or think that he knows everything about airguns and newbie questions are boring to him. New people need the same consideration he would expect if he asks a question. Why make new people afraid to ask a question, if they get chastised for asking a question some think is boring or been ask before. This is just a hobby.

My computer and technical skills and understanding suck. As humbling for me to actually reach out and ask for help it's rather disconcerting to read some members see this as such an inconvenience for them. Rules are rules yes but we ALL are different and yes some people just need to be told by a longer time member what's up.

This post doesn't discourage asking questions at all. Its simply a recommendation to prevent people from spamming the boards with useless posts in a sole attempt at gaining the ability to use the classifieds.

I think a simple 4 questions . they would still have to read the rules to answer .

As a newcomer to this site, I would like to make a couple of comments hopefully w/o making a fool of myself:

I cannot totally disagree with the initial post suggesting a test, but would certainly prefer to see FelixS's suggestion for a link at the top of the page before a test, and wholeheartedly endorse the suggestion for a FAQ section.

I've read the General Rules 2 or 3 times now and find no reference to any of the first 5 questions listed in the original post.

As a newbie, I look forward to being able to contact sellers, so have checked my profile and see that I have no "credit" for logging in, completing my profile and uploading ann avatar. I've checked the Help section and found none. This is where the FAQ section might help rather then my having to use the Contact Us link and ask questions.

Just my 2 cents, thanks for listening!
