AEA 22 or 25 HP SS Pistol?

I just ordered a 22 and I see all the fun folks are having with their 25 and I'm wondering if I should have gone with a bigger punch.

It's really just going to be used for plinking and the occasional rat.

Am I correct, when I say the ammo is on average double the costs from a 22 to a 25?

I currently have nether calipers.

Opinions and advice on where to score 25 cal ammo at the costs of 22 is MUCH appreciated. Cheers

I've had both, and unless you can obtain a pistol adjustable to serious high power, then I'd stick to .22 caliber!

The "punch" of a .25 comes from a heavy projectile moving at high speed (800 - 900+ fps). Most pistols can't do this, but there are exceptions ie: Talon and Prod, both of which can be cranked up to high speeds. (Early reports on a modified Artemis 700 are very promising...) Otherwise, check carefully about any other pistols potential top speed with a specific pellet/slug weight before you buy. A slow .25 caliber has the trajectory of a rainbow and all the punch of an elderly lady with tennis elbow!

You don't need a .25 caliber to do a lot of damage in pistol range. I've seen full size hogs dropped with a heavy .22 headshot at reasonable distances.

As always, the biggest limiting factor in any pcp pistol's effective performance is you the shooter.

PS: Cost...if you measure the weight of the lead involved, both calibers cost about the same per pellet weight...in .25 you generally get fewer pellets due to weight difference. Not always true depending on brand...especially the "Name Brands". However, this website has very low shipping/free shipping, depending on volume, and a large choice of pellets/slugs: https://www.fieldsupply.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=pellets

A .22 is never a bad choice IMO, and you can always buy another .25 gun in the future anyways. Considering it is a pistol, I think .22 is more than enough to plink and take out small game. I'd go rifle in .25 for a next gun though.

Most people here own guns in more than 1 caliber since there are various applications in which we use our guns. (plinking, bench, hunting, backpack, etc). I've never seen quality .25 ammo cost the same or less than quality .22 ammo; but then again, I myself, haven't been in this hobby long enough to perhaps comment on this. Just my 2 cents.

I live on the east coast, Long Island NY and PRE- ordered it from Bin "Sig Shooter" the AEA dealer for the east coast, located in Massachusetts. He said on Sundays hes available for anyone to come down to the range and try out the AEA line, which I will do, probably this Sunday, weather permitting. He has a YouTube channel discussing the line. He also was $60 cheaper than the central USA dealer but did not have it in stock. The central US dealer had it in stock. I didn't realize that until after i ordered, but I'm in no rush anyway and I look at it, like that $60 will go towards ammo.
