AEA aea challenger

Happy New Year folks!!!

QDFOX, do you have a magazine that will fit the Challenger Standard.30 cal rifle? I do not see a listing on your site for the Challenger Standard series?
Hello. MongooseV8 tested the Challenger Pro magazines I listed and said it was also compatible with the standard Challenger. Here is the direct link to the ones that he purchased :)

Just keep in mind you will need High rings of at least ~0.810" saddle height. I have some 0.830" rings on the way so I will report back to confirm soon.

Thank you gentlemen for your replys. I look forward to your experience with the mags on the Challenger Standard.

BTW, did the magazine tend to stay in place during cycling? The OEM mags tend to jump out of position during at least the first three bolt cycles.
The mags have a solid friction fit on my rifle so far. I have not done a ton of shooting with them yet since I had to order another set of rings. But with the limited function testing I have done I dont expect them to move at all during use. The Challengers have a small magnet in the breech block that should correspond with the factory mags so I am surprised you had trouble with yours. My factory AEA mags broke immediately first use, and another will not hold the clear plastic lid still when you wind it up to load. They are pretty much un-useable which has left both of my Challengers in the safe since I got them. But now I have some hope I can use them with aftermarket mags. The bullpup version should work even better as you wouldnt need to change anything else to use them.

My Challenger does have the circular magnet in the breech block and does have the springball for indexing, but there is little to no pressure placed on the magazine from the springball, and the mags have no metal to interact with the magnet. I did find a Challenger Pro magazine which I purchased from Orion a while back, and it will insert into position in my Challenger Standard, but the bolt does not line up properly and it seems to bind. I will play with it a little more to see if I can make it fit better. The Orion magazine has no metal for the magnet, nor does it have the small dimple to integrate with the springball.

If I saw a cheap Challenger "SL" 24 inch barrel, non bullpup on the marketplace, I would be tempted to buy it in any caliber.

I had one in .357 and it was actually pretty sweet for what it could do. From what I was told is was one of the first sold in the USA several years ago. Loud, yeah. I would kind of like the same in .22 or .25 because those were pushing upwards of 80 ft lbs in those smaller calibers, which is obviously pretty sweet if you can dial in the right ammo.

And from what I hear the trigger was lighter on the smaller calibers as well. Nice wood stock for under $350. I hope someone sells me one.
Love my 357, taken woodchucks out at 150 yards, 340fpe, I have had it close to 4 years now.

Just a quick update, I did order a 7 shot mag from Maple Leaf (Canada) and it is working well in my Challenger .30 cal. The 7 shot mag does not require high rings. I had Maple Leaf mags previously for my Notos and they are a fine option.
Yes in hindsight I probably should have just gone with the Maple Leaf too, but I liked the design of the fox mags. Had I realized they were so tall I probably would have reconsidered, but ultimately I am glad to have some decent mags.

Sorry to tag into this thread, but I’m also considering getting a Challenger in .35 or possibly .30. I am really mostly wondering about the weight. The specs say the standard 24” weighs 6.9#, but I asked a vendor to weigh one and they came up with 8#. I’ve also seen several references in this thread to the weight. Can someone confirm the weight of a standard stocked 24”? Thanks.

I just weighed my Challenger standard in .30 with the 24 inch barrel. Mine has a reg and scope mounted and came in at 10.25#. I would say 8# is closer to the true weight. Weight is also without the moderator or bipod installed.
Thanks. I was hoping the 6.9# was correct, but I guess I could live with an 8# gun. I'd probably just put a 16 - 18 oz scope and probably 4 - 5 oz rings on it, so I'd be looking at about 9.5# total. I guess that would be manageable.

I have bullpup .457 and I can say it is the best thing I ever had, even compared with low caliber firearms. It is consistent, putting lead into 1" at 50 yards consistently. See by yourself:

The only think I unfortunately fount is that you have to be careful when disassembling / assembling.
I have broken the trigger sear because of pure lack of attention. Also, it is kind of hard to have spare parts available.

Thanks;

Hey Terry, I was finally able to get out and shoot the new 24" Challenger .357 Standard I got from you a couple of weeks ago. I wasn't able to get any 1" groups, but other than the H&N Grizzlys, the other slugs I tried shot pretty good. At 50 yards the Lee 125's (actually 129 gr) that I sized both .356 and .357 had 5 shot groups of 2 3/8"....not too great, but I may get those smaller as I get used to the trigger. The 110 gr Zan's did much better at about 1 3/4" and the FX Hybrids did really well at 1 3/8". I'm guessing I can get those to shoot better too. I've never compared my chrony to any others, so it may be a bit off, but I got a high of 243.0 fpe for the Lee 125 sized at .356 and a low 5th shot at 189.3 fpe for the Lee 125 sized at .357. For the Lee's the average 5 shot energy was 217.0 fpe. I was really surprised at the FX Hybrids. I only shot the one 5 shot group, but they had a high of 185.4 fpe and a low of 162.4 for an average of 174.0 fpe. I think I'm going to like this gun! I was also really surprised at how poor the H&N Grizzlys shot. I didn't even try to measure the "group", but you can see how scattered they are in the picture. I just got an NOE 359-115-HP mold yesterday, so I need to get some more casting and shooting done with those. Thanks for the rifle!

Locktite EVERY thing you find a little loose. Trust me, I should have done that from the start with my .457 Challenger BP. I may have 10 magazines thru it and have owned it for about 3 yrs. Been sitting in the case collecting dust for over a year because I am pretty much done with trying to fix it every time I take it out to shoot. Right now the damn thing won't even cock properly. It will not catch when I try to fully cock it back. Never have I had any other issues with my other PCP's as to where it was not functional. Almost disgusted with my purchase at this point. But hey, thats just me.....
