AEA HP varmint upgradabilty?

That bottle reg is pretty cool. And at a decent price.

Only issue I see is that it doesn’t afford much plenum space which can drop the max power significantly.

The Huma reg definitely dropped the power on my HP carbine 22 cal and it still had some feeding issues no matter where I set the regulator. A larger plenum would help with power.. however, I got worn out on tweaking this Semiauto to function for just a few mags of good operation but always has so so accuracy.. about 1” at 30 yds, so I simply removed the semi cocking function and use it as a bolt action. 🙄
This design is not going to function long term as is. If you disassemble and look for unequal wear especially where the hammer guide rod fits into the aluminum receiver just above the pin poppet valve you will find the hole where the rod fits into is oval shaped because of this design. If the high wear areas were all sleeved with high speed quality steel this semi auto design would be much better. IMO
I’m very picky and expect my air guns to be dialed in to be near single hole shooters at 25 yds~30yds. This one is not cutting it so far. Using it in bolt action mode it’s better but still so so accurate about 1” @ 25 yds and of course defeats the reason I bought it.
My regulated AEA Challengers (.22 and .357) were both able to be dissembled, cleaned up and dialed in and are now very accurate. The Challenger design is basic, EZ to work on and very Straight Forward and worth the 400 bucks.
My 2 cents

Looks like your painting with a broad brush, mine feeds fine and I just pulled the hammer spring last weekend and mine has no wear in the pin pocket.

5k pellets through this gun and rolling strong.

The Huma bottle regulator is in my cart and almost sprung for it last night but my CC didn't like Huma and would not go through.

I think that for the Varmint, it would be a good addition, the .43l bottle filled to 4k would get me 50% more shots and I could keep it at my sweet spot longer.
I thought when I looked at it that it was only good to 3600PSI or a bit more. Don't remember the conversion now.

Thank you! I'll watch that one.

Also: my folding stock latch just stopped working when I was taking the trigger group out. It had always been a little rattly, but now it failed altogether to hold the stock open. Has anyone seen this? IMG_20220928_173340.jpg

I know there's not a lot of assesories for the AEA Varmint. But I think huma is making a regulator for it soon. They have regulators for both the HP SS and HP carbine now. But I haven't see a regulator for the varmint on anything other than those you tube vids with the dudes from the Philippines. Those Philippine dudes seem to be at an advanced level with their air gunning. Especially the dyi stuff.

I've got a Varmint and a Carbine TD, and I look for mods often. For now it seems like DonnyFL adapter end caps, magazines, grips and butt stocks are all the mods we're gonna get for a while. Keep checking out Huma-air website for a varmint regulator. Some day someone might make a trigger for the HP line. Ide be pumped about that. I don't hate the AEA triggers but they are super far forward and the pull is nothing to brag about. But they do the job and they do not seem cheap so that's good I guess.

But the whole HP line is modular and the guns just waiting for an upgrade. No one is making upgrades for them yet. Maybe when they sell more guns and ENUF people have them. They are really good for the money. My carbine TD is one mean air rifle, the varmint is too tho.

Yes. My Varmint did that. I had to disassemble the folding stock and use a Dremel to let it "bite" more onto the post. Or just stretch the spring a little so it pushes to the post harder.

Thanks! Looks like that cleared it up for me, as well. I may try to do a little more at some point but that fixed it.

That's the mod I did on my carbine, works very well. The Varmint just got a little dressing on the latch surface to sit fully closed and that solved any rattle.

I got the trigger spring yesterday and I will polish off a little more of my sear abs see where mt break is now.

Looking at fabbing a new trigger with the blade back 5mm further. Heat treat it of course when done.

DAMN!

Got the Chrony numbers tonight, 13 shots at 869 fps in a row shooting the JSB Diabolo Exact King Heavy MKII, 33.95gr pellets. This is unregulated, folks.

10m indoor range in my shop, 24 bull target, the Varmint did an outstanding job, very pleased.
How's your accuracy with those 34s? Mine is ok, but it clearly likes the 25.4s, practically stacking them on each other at 35 yards.
I guess I'm not too disappointed though, because I get laser beam accuracy with H&N 36gr slugs, and that makes the 34s redundant for my needs.

Here is a pic of my.22 with a bottle reg and a adapter plenum. It was very cheap to setup. Let me run 300bar in the bottle and I regulated it to 3200psi. Which was peak pressure for my shot strings. 23gr javelin’s at 950ish instead of 1100+ fps. If it had more plenum it wouldn’t have slowed them down. Still had to turn the power way down for barracuda hunter extreme’s and hades.
