AEA HP varmint upgradabilty?

I agree it is a good sized burr. For some reason AEA tapers the bore at the muzzle. Mine starts about half an inch back tapering to almost no grooves at the muzzle. If they won't take it back you probably could still grind it out.

Cutting it off and crowning would be a job. I'm not sure what all would have to be changed to get it to operate semi auto again. Probably shroud trim and adjustment to the disc that works the semiauto function.

The bore and the chamber are tapered the same. Looks to me like the same tool. First is the chamber and second is the bore. Both my rifles are like this. For whatever reason they do this is beyond me but my rifles shot well after lapping the barrels and trueing the muzzle end.

Look how ruff the lands and grooves are. I have lapped this barrel 3 times with JB bore. There was a lot of rust in one of my guns and both had tight spots as you pushed a pellet through the barrel. I lapped until the tight spots were gone.

I'm following Dave's mods closely as I want to reduce the hammer pull a bit. My barrel is less than ideal, rust and pitting and a request for an RMA from UA has gone unanswered so I may just work on this one for a bit and see how the accuracy is. This will be a dedicated slug gun shooting .25 cal, 36gr NOE HP's and I will cook up a batch of them today and see if I can load one right from the mold.
When I see comments like these that get me questioning buying my blitz from utah air.

You can get a regulator for the Varmint from Bintac now. Or buy one assembled as such. Nice guns I wouldn't mind owning one, but its not in my budget atm
I know I broke the bank for all these guns an scopes but im boutta have a whole lotta fun with me just dont wanna start working into my 170 dollar stash of rounds until I give the gun its full potential by upgrading whatever, I overlooked the cost a bit I just though okay gun $550 whatever I can afford that an a scope but then a bottle rail adapter runs 55 dollars 40 dollars for a donny fl adapter another 150 for a sumo as this thing will shout loud, I mean what else a regulator how much will that run buttstock mods all that stuff to get it to perform.

Here is a pic of my.22 with a bottle reg and a adapter plenum. It was very cheap to setup. Let me run 300bar in the bottle and I regulated it to 3200psi. Which was peak pressure for my shot strings. 23gr javelin’s at 950ish instead of 1100+ fps. If it had more plenum it wouldn’t have slowed them down. Still had to turn the power way down for barracuda hunter extreme’s and hades.

Wait so you lost power by adding the reg so where would you find that larger plenums, Is it worth the upgrade I got a 25 cal varmint. Im so new to these aea airguns im just trying to give my varmint some more potential if possible before I stard running my stash of rounds down range.

Huma makes terrific regulators. I have three AEA’s two regulated with Huma Regulator’s.
The Semiautomatic design is so so on AEA airguns imho. I’ve had lots of trouble getting my .22 HP carbine to cycle long term properly. The design pushes on one side to cock the action and thus causes unequal wear and eventually slop in many areas. This design might work long term if the manufacturing material’s were titanium or similar quality material.
I have a Evanix Raptor Semiauto in 30 cal Huma regulated 😁 have shot a few thousand pellets and slugs and Has Never Misfed or Jammed! Zero failures! 😁😁

I do love my AEA Challengers.. especially after resolving the 6lb triggers to a clean crisp release! The 22 is now 1 lb! And my 357 is now 1 lb 14 Oz’s swack!
Have a great day!

Does adding a reg drop power can you get a larger plenum to combat the issue?
Dave, thanks for the reminder. Not used to regs, plenums, etc... Any thoughts on what kind of power, velocity a .22 might get with that reg at 150bar? I doubt it would work for me if I was wanting to shoot slugs at 950-1000fps.
I got my heaviest @ 46 grain slugs for my .25 cal varmint heard it likes heavier ones also got some smaller in 38 grain an 40 grain an some other grains sizes heard it gets around 100 fpe. I wanna push these out as fast as I possibly can so I dont know if the reg is the right move for me.

Thanks Dave, I read that last month but forgot to save it in my favorites. My memory ain't worth .02 anymore.
Helped me understand
I know there's not a lot of assesories for the AEA Varmint. But I think huma is making a regulator for it soon. They have regulators for both the HP SS and HP carbine now. But I haven't see a regulator for the varmint on anything other than those you tube vids with the dudes from the Philippines. Those Philippine dudes seem to be at an advanced level with their air gunning. Especially the dyi stuff.

I've got a Varmint and a Carbine TD, and I look for mods often. For now it seems like DonnyFL adapter end caps, magazines, grips and butt stocks are all the mods we're gonna get for a while. Keep checking out Huma-air website for a varmint regulator. Some day someone might make a trigger for the HP line. Ide be pumped about that. I don't hate the AEA triggers but they are super far forward and the pull is nothing to brag about. But they do the job and they do not seem cheap so that's good I guess.

But the whole HP line is modular and the guns just waiting for an upgrade. No one is making upgrades for them yet. Maybe when they sell more guns and ENUF people have them. They are really good for the money. My carbine TD is one mean air rifle, the varmint is too tho.
I like you got the varmint and the td in mind already got varmint coming tomorrow ups says in my state now, an I was planning on purchasing a carbine td if I found it in stock anywhere also is there a big difference between td a standard carbine besides the bottle size dont seem much, Also id like to hear of all the mods you came across im new to these AEA airguns y'all had them months/years any knowledge would be appreciated.

My .25 Varmint is on its way back to UA after MUCH nonsense from their customer service. I am hoping they car repair/replace the barrel/gun so I can enjoy the same accuracy you all are getting.
I mean they better replace it if they sent u a defect an dont cover it thats some phony buisness an if they did me all imma say is that if I ever went to RMAC id have to pull on utah air catch em in person an press the issue😤 But thats me. So how did it go from there did ya get it figured out, New gun came yet?

I was also interested in the HP vamint, it looks to be a nice gun but I don't think its what im looking for. What it seems to be is a manual/repeating version of their semi-auto. I do know you can actually get the semi-auto parts and convert it into a semi. Thats all fine and good, but I really have no interest in a semi-auto and the design has no provisions for a plenum if you were going to add a regulator.
Some of the other guns they have based on this design have the ability to add a second bottle as a buttstock. But i dont think you can do that with this version. I was thinking it would be neat to have a regulator on the front bottle and then use the second bottle as the plenum. But i dont think thats possible...
U can make em semi auto where are the parts?

I don't think you can turn it into semi-auto with the varmint barrel. As you probably know the semi auto function works based on blow back inside the barrel shroud, and the plunger part at the end of the coil needs to be close to the end of the barrel for it to work. The HP SS semi autos have a much shorter barrel.

Perhaps with a combination of Terminator and HP SS parts it could be made to work. Good luck with that.

AFAIK the only reasonable upgrade for an HP Varmint is a 700cc CF bottle.
You dont need anything no adapters right? thinking of buying one of these eather 500cc or 580 price wise 580 is bout 35 dollars more so I might just get the 500 nice budget 100 dollar upgrade lighten it up an extra 50 cc of air https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256....0.0.48e738da6ypmHW&mp=1&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256...!sea!US!3693040917&curPageLogUid=RJbyHe8ZI3fO
