AEA AEA SF .30 another "talk me out of"

The old or the new? The old ones sucked.

The semi's have always had problems, more so the older models.

For a more reliable AEA platform get yourself a bolt action or side lever. I had a Varmint .25 thay was robust. All the other AEA semis either the poppets broke, they pushed so much air to cycle the next round that it pushed the round past the mag to the back cause it to lodge itself in the block or it would cause the clear face to break off infront of your face.

My older 13" barreled HO Semi Auto has a regulator and plenum, I got her shooting like a dream!!

I won't buy from Umarex. Bought a $329 Origin 18 months ago. Found out I could not find O ring and rebuild kits for it anywhere.
Called Umarex.
Umarex told me it was discontinued. And basically tough luck on an O ring kit.
The point I am making here is to not so much look at the newest fluff. But to look for a company you feel confident in should issues arise.
I would call and E mail companies on tht you are interested in and ask or find out online if rebuild kits are available?
I invested over $550 in Umarex and felt a bad vibe when I called them 5 days ago.
Research the company first and make sure O rings and all rubber parts are easily replaceable.
Cry once buy once.
Find a reputable company with available after market parts.
Or do like me and purchase 3 Umarex Zada *EDITED* HATSAN in .25 since those are budget priced. Each one around $124.
One goes out grab the new one.
Sorry, I am rambling too much.
Just don't want to see you make a mistake like I did. And purchase something you can't get parts for.
You aren't rambling, you are saving me from a mistake. I appreciate that.

In my case. I ended up with a $550 headache if you add the finance charge.
Get a reputable company. And if possible. Find something that you can get an entire PCP air riflerebuild kit.
Easy as possible.
Ask some of the members here for advice and recommendations.
Hope you find what you want.

What's your budget? Are you dead set on .30 cal.? If you can find an FX Royale 500 (.25) in these classifieds you can hardly find a gun that compares to the accuracy, smoothness of operation, quietness, LOW to no maintenance, etc., etc. Pellets only, no slugs but man, what a dream to shoot. There are others in the great shooting, out-of-the-box category (Taipan Veteran, Daystate Huntsman). These are "trouble free" for the most part, well loved by owners & a long track record of being great guns. They won't frustrate a 1st time owner the way more adjustable & modular guns have a tendency to do & will generate a very positive "1st impression" to pcp airguns. Just my suggestion. The .30 Royale is called the Boss but VERY hard to find used (not many will cut loose with them). REALLY great guns but most overlook the older, time proven classic style nowadays. They're missing out! BTW, the bad stuff you might hear about FX guns is never about the Royale platform (in my recollection).

Good council.

I own a bunch of AEA guns but airsmithing has allowed me to understand and correct issues others would/could discourage.

My Challenger Big 9mm makes 300 fpe, it hits 2MOA, perfect 50y deer gun.
Yeah, with enough Loctite and white oak log you get a $2000 gun for $600 ;)

My .51 Challenger was at least 2MOA, too. Passed on air for deer because the trajectory is still too steep for a mediocre shooter like I am. Also 19 lbs w/ the scope, my poor back... But I liked how it barked and kicked.

This is a deep thought post! The truth is I am not really set on any caliber. I have an Airacuda Max .22 and have enjoyed shooting it. I just assumed that if I wanted to add to what I have a .30 was the next logical step. I don't have a plan for it and I don't need it. I don't really have a budget either. I guess I would like to be able to kill larger game if SHTF. I am not really a prepper but November is coming!

Crossbow is as deadly, almost silent and very accurate to a practical SHTF distance. I once gave my Centerpoint xbow to brother in law in he split my best bolts at 50 yards distance. I forgot to tell him the bolts are sort of reusable ;)

OK, cool. I get it. My 1st new gun was my Royale 500. I immediately started looking for a .30 & found my Boss in classifieds. 7 years down the road I'm STILL enthralled & love them both. Never cease to amaze me! Sent you a PM btw.

That's awesome! I used to have a .25 assasin and it was a great shooter for a semi auto at the time. That is, when it would cycle the shots correctly. Little too late when I found out about a year or two after I sold it that you could fix the cycling issue by cover 2 or 3 of the holes in the shroud dampener which you got either use over sized slugs to plug or .22 casings.

I did not know that until now. I gave it to a Good red head Irish man so he could teach himself and his kiid safe shooting skills for beginners.
So I am pretty happy to know I may have turned someone on to air rifle shooting.
I pretty much am of the sound mind that if I get an air rifle. I want a single shot pcp .50 cal for medium to big game.
And that will cost. And is a future plan.
For now I am going to buy anoother budget cheap spare Hatsan Zada design since I love the solid stock build quality.
I am of the mind I am better off if I can afford a $600 pcp or a $400 range on up middle class break barrel.
That I can maintain easier with less company hassle than with some PCP's
I hear ya.

for the big bores I like the style of the aea challenger elite. Heavy at 12lbs but being able to shoot serious power for over a mag while being regulated is nuts to me.

Honestly if you have a .22 and are dead set on having a larger caliber for bigger game .25 doesn't make too much sense for me. Does it make more power? Yes, but with a .30 you will have more than sufficient power for whatever you need unless you try to go for deer which different states require certain FPE minimums to take down.

I personally don't like to shoot .25 because my .22 can do everything the .25 can since I shoot slugs and I look for the most expansion and least amount of pass through. Otherwise I go for .30

AEA HP Max 30 is a good choice, the big 9 is a good choice, the bulldog is good too. AOA has a used Daystate Renegade HP 30 for $1k but for the power and shot count you may as well get a MA2 .30

Well dang. I like my present plan of hopefully stockpile3 2-3 Hatsan Zada air pellet rifles.
In the mean time for the next year. I pay off some debt and live with my $300 in air rifles.
Hopefully I can find a refurbished .25 or preferably .30 single shot AEA Texan compact.
Single shot.
Built for dead on accuracy and power.
I prefer .25 for the extra bit of shock power. As I primarily have a budget Hatsan Zada. Mainly to kill rabbid skunks, possum, foxes, etc.
There is a nice urban walk trail here with lots of paths and nice different areas full of diverse growth.
I don't want anyone's dog or cat. Getting rabies.
I just had to take care of a very rare white skunk.
It was a shame.
Oddly enough. It is perfect form wise for my 31 inch reach.
Lines up well.
Sheer luck huh?
I just prefer the extra mass of .25 minimum. And really want a .30 someday
