Nice looking rifle! Sorry, right now I will have to pass. I CNC cut my stocks so there is quiet a bit of up front CAD & programming work that goes into the first stock and that looks like it would be a one and done with the rifle already having a nice looking factory stock.

I fully understand. It would likely be a single build for you and that's definitely not an effective business practice... Your work is beautiful and thank you for sharing it with us.

@Loren what if he provided a 3D scan of the stock, wouldn’t something like that be able to directly or with some ( slight i assume ) modification go strait into the program.
CNC have changed a lot since they tried to teach it to me in the mid 80ties,,,,,, dident like it then dont like it now, or that is i like what you can do, almost get damn aroused watching a 5 axis machine work,
But in my last job i have at times manned a CNC lathe when one of the guys have been sick, and its just so boring i feel.
And today 1 guy is supposed to run several machines it seem.
Hell i also had to run my grinding machine and a track making machine, 2 different lubes all over the god damn place.

are you using a shopbot?
No, a custom built 4 axis machine I designed and built. Most factory built "off the shelf" machines do not have enough Z axis travel, especially over a 4th axis using long cutters needed to reach down into the inletting.

I have a new 3D scanner and going through the steep learning curve of scanning and point cloud cleanup. Even once an STL file is in hand there will still be quiet a bit of CAD work and CNC programming. I would like to get all that time down to less than 8 hours but right now I am no wear near that. Even then 8 hours of overhead design time is a tough $$$ to swallow before even cutting any chips. For direct copies a duplicator would have an advantage for one offs.

You are right many shops want a operator to be running more than one machine, especially if the cycle time is longer.

wait like you added a rotary chuck or you legit built the gantry, etc? Either way I’m consistently impressed with what AGN members. Please keep posting pics I love seeing what people are able to do and your stuff looks great! May the g code gods be ever in your favor 😁

I'm the senior Airgunsmith/Technician for pyramyd air. I also do a lot of custom work in tuning. If there is ever a stock you'd like so you can measure/scan/CAD... whatever you need let me know. I still don't expect a favor and would be thrilled to help you with growing your business. I did a lot of CAD in the late 90's early 2000's. I'm sure it's not any faster now and still hard earned work none the less.

Loren, as always just beautiful work.

Being a machinist for the last 50+ years I know how much work goes into scanning, create a surface out of a point cloud, program and cut an actual part. You are truly a talented individual. I hope you can pass your skills on to another generation. And continue to share with us your lovely creations.

Thanks!

I designed and built the machine. It was my second CNC build.

I kind of chronicled the machine build here. https://airgunguild.com/index.php?topic=4013.195

Thanks! No, the CAD is not any faster and I have been at it a LONG time.
