AEAC Vlog & Full Video review - Nomad II

The man of the hour. Thank you as always!

Picked one of these up and so far I'm loving it. Big upgrade from my previous compressor. I am a little surprised we don't hear more about them to be honest, I'd have expected they'd be more popular. Maybe no news is good news, people bought them and as long as they're working fine nobody says anything. :p

Steve, looking very much forward to your in-depth full review on this little bad boy. Have been following threads and videos on this very carefully, so far, everything looks positive! I will be pulling the trigger (hopefully) after this review. My buddy Dana did a nice review with it as well and took it out in the field for car charging as well. Also, read on PA website from someone that the compressor needs to be lubed while running so that it can suck up the little 2-3 drops you need to put in it every 5 fills, makes sense, since the fill port it on the side. Watching Dana's video, he used silicone oil from a spray can with a tip like the WD-40 bottles come with, I think that makes it way easier to lube this little compressor up. You can get silicone oil in a spray can from even Autozone. Anyways, looking forward to your review.

Steve Thanks for the mini prereview I have also been watching Bob-O's review of this compressor so you know I'll be back . So my question is after you do this review can you give a opinion of which one seems better ( the nomad II vs. the Spark ) or the advantage of one over the other ? Sorry but don't really want to put you on the spot or maybe which one you might pick . I'll be using it to fill a cricket carbine- marauders & puncher breaker , seems that the larger unit will prevail over longevity . I have ran out of a option for 4500 psi so I need to take a different route. I realize to each his own but if you had to pick one which would it be ? Thanks you do a great job for us airgunners Darell

Air Venturi told me yesterday day they're about sold out, so something tells me popularity hasn't been a problem, lol. Steve

That's right, as described you want the compressor running when going through the post 20 fill rejuvenation process... the manual didn't suggest this for the routine adding of the drops though. Good tips you've offered there though. Best, Steve

Right away I thought of the Nomad II as a Spark/Power Supply all contained into one unit. The Nomad is more expensive and larger... the Spark is less expensive and is smaller, so long as you're running it on 12v and not using the separate 110v power supply unit. Depending on the situation, they each seem good at something the other isn't. Also, the Spark seems to have a sealed lubrication system where the Nomad requires oil added internally... no idea which is better long term.

That help?

WTH, the price just went up on PA to $699.99.

I learned from Air Venturi at SHOT Show that due to a recent increased tarrif, this has been coming for a while now, and that once the current supply is sold through, they'll be updating the pricing. .. guess they just did. To put the conversation in context, they were super bumbed out about it, but felt they had no choice.

Looks like their big compressor went up in price too. Luckily, AGD still lists at $649...pulling the trigger!

I've owned 2 Shoebox compressors. These newer ones may work OK, for rifle fills.

I bought a used 110lb compressor from a dive shop. Was told it needs oil, filter, wire it, get hoses for scab and rifle & I'd be off to the races. Leaks everywhere. Sold it to a guy with full disclosure and he got her running to this day.

I'm at the point I'll hand pump for rifle fills; but want a 3.5-4cfm Alkin starting at $2999.00 so I can run my guns tethered from scab bottle with a 5000psi step down regulator. MAYBE, I'd get a 6K set up if any of the air gas, Prax Air, welding shops would make it worth my time. As of now, they won't even rent if they know it's for PCP usage. Liability? Heck, I even offered to buy THEIR seed down reg set ups which are usually a lot more than anyone sells them for or consider I can buy the reg block for $268.00 2 gauges are around $25.00 each for good glycerin filled 2" ones. Fittings and 6-10' of hose $500-$600 mark.

When you're shooting cast sized slugs out of anything from a .22 to a .82 and your chronograph shows 10fps spread or less, you'll be glad you did it all. So will your groups.

I have nothing against these smaller compressors as long as guys know, fill the rifle, not a 45 minute or bigger bottle. Guns with internal regs, great. Non regulated, great. Until I want to sit at a bench with it. Big bores? forget it. Get tethered or piss in the wind all over yourself. Buy once, cry once.

Someone wiser than I said that here once long ago.

Any concerns with the amount of moisture that will make it into the rifle during fill? What accessory would you recommend to keep the air as dry as possible?

Thanks for the vid!

Regards,

Dan

Even down here in warm/moist Florida this week, I didn't find moisture to be an issue. The unit has an internal reservoir that presumably condenses & holds moisture and excess oil until the recommended purge interval of 20 fills. At around 15 fills, I had about a teaspoon or two of moisture blow out, which you'll see in the upcoming vid. If you need more drying than that' I'd consult Pyramyd.

As if the vlog video isn't a good enough teaser, I pulled a bunch of pics off of Steve's Instagram page @hookedonair https://www.instagram.com/hookedonair/ enjoy
