Tuning Air Arms Galahad air leak?

Hello Nation --=--

A buddy has had this Galahad for about 3 years without issue but he hasn't shot it much in the past year. Took it out last week and I noticed that it was shooting about 450FPS, VERY quiet! So we moved the air opening adjustment knob to 'HI' and it started shooting in the mid-700's. Okay! The air opening adjustment knob does not adjust the regulator only the amount of air allowed through the port opening....I think.

He went to top it off today and could hear a leak near the bolt area but not sure where. I asked him to cock it, which he did and it leaked after filling but stopped after a few minutes at about half of the gauge. Not sure what may be causing this, seems like perhaps the regulator is leaking past until it settles and stops. I don't believe it has anything to do with increasing the air knob opening but not certain.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Could be the valve seat (poppet). Try whacking the gun many times with a rubber mallet or your palm where you hear the leak while slowly filling and also while shooting. Maybe dust or debris got inside making it not seat properly thus leaking.

If whacking doesn't help...

Could be this...hopefully not...

If it was purchased brand new and WAS NOT A REFURB...FYI...

OH!!! AND IT HASN'T EVER BEEN TINKERED WITH!!! HOPEFULLY IT WASNT...

Thanks for the insights Odoyle, much appreciated. I text my buddy asking if it stopped after cocking it after the initial leak and he said that it is now holding air. Freaky thing. Shot with him today and it held pressure all morning without a hitch.

Sure would be good to understand how it lost air in the first place. Guess we'll never know.
