I would buy my S510 carbine in .22 again if i did not have one. .177 just gets wonky too easily with pellets and it is not powerful enough to shoot .177 slugs appropriately. .22 pellets and up to 23g slugs have performed very well from this pcp. I have put 7 different types of ammo through it and i only get elevation changes. Some are more accurate of course.

I have the 500 in 22 and bought it used. It is such a nice full size rifle. It’s over 7lbs.

I do not have a lot of opportunity to use 30+fpe, so when I do I do not want to fret about tuning. Don’t need to anyway because there is little adjustment.

It does a very nice job at full power, but I can crank down the port and shoot wad cutters in the basement. Loves Meiserters at low and anything 18 to 21 grain at full.

If you want to tune, this is not the platform.

I have an old AA S 410 XTRA and like them much better, mostly looks with the 16mm shroud and different trigger tho the current trigger is good enough for compition. . I have used the newer regulated 510, fine utility and absolutely out of the box usable for years. One thing you don't hear about AA is leaks. 18 years and I have had the seals replaced once just because they were 10 years old. Daystae does make nice rilfes also ( personally do not care for the "Hairwolf" but that was just one lemon).

Do post up pictures, targets ... of whatever you get.

I have an Air Arms, Galahad HR Carbine (short barrel version), in .22
Not many seem to give it much thought...I like it. No need to list the reasons, because...no one else gives it...much thought.
Other than my cat chewing on the butt pad, I've had zero problems in the two+ years that I've owned it.

Having shot for Air Arms in several competitions, I am a huge fan of all of their product.

In the S510, I think .177 and .22 is where the platform really shines. I have a .22 S500 and it is really just spectacular out of the box. Getting about 70 shots at 32 FPE w/ JSB 18.1s. Accuracy is fantastic.

Most of my Air Arms .177s are 12 FPE. I'm sure the .177 S510 FAC is cracking since my .177 S300 (about 25 years old) shoots just about as well as anything except for the super ultra gourmet bespoke bench guns.

I'd go with the .22 and not look back.

When I first started looking at PCPs the AA S500 was a serious contender but I ended up going with the Weihrauch HW100 because it was regulated and had a much better magazine system.

Fast forward to last fall and I bought a .22 S510. It's now regulated, accurate as always, shoots well and it's a real looker. Really enjoying the airgun, it's a bit on the heavy side and shot-count is only adequate. Think the factory tune is a little too hot and plan to tune it down to shoot 16 grain pellets as I think the valve was designed for that level of power - the rifle appears to be old technology that has been patched along ever since the old 400 series. The magazine system looks like a bolted on afterthought rather that something designed into the rifle, still, it works fine and have had no issues with it.

I like traditional style rifles and the S510 is a beauty. No buyer's remorse, not at all but I'm preferring more modern PCPs that are more versatile and convenient to tune.

I love(ed) my s510XS Ultimate Sporter until tonight when I decided to rip it apart I find out why it was not holder air. Yes I work I airgun offer, but tonight I made what I think will be a costly mistake. When screwing in the tank into the firing valve body I broke the Guide Rod (twisted it off) in the the body. I have absolutely no way to get it out. I am so bummed, it was such a stupid mistake on my part.

Going to make calls tomorrow to Air Venturi because this is not a small or common part to replace. FYI, I never did find the leak... :(

I thought it was the barrel o ring - NO, then I thought Breech o ring - NO, loading bot o ring - NO (FYI, it leaking around the loading area) then I thought it was the regulator port/transfer port - NO..... Then when I started looking at the tank I took apart the firing body AGAIN, I when I went to align everything I twisted it to far and that's when the guide rod broke off into the firing value body! DUMB DUMB DUMB....

Watch it could be cheaper to find a used 510XS .22 - but I hope not!

Well I feel better venting now - let's ee what tomorrow brings.

OH in hindsight I think it could have been the Breech side o rings around the cylinder... What I should have checking/replaced first! Also I should have stood the gun upright when I I was filling from ZERO! I'll never know now, I just want to get it working again!!!!!

You could pay twice that number for a 12 ft. lb. Thomas rifle.
A 12 ft. lb. AA HFT500 is such a sweet heart of a rifle though........

The AA home market drives much of their design and engineering, and there are those pesky power limits.
Shooting up to the FT power limit of 20 ft. lbs. the AA rifles seem to hold their own, once set up and operated by a competent trigger puller.

I see your point, being as we have no limits on power, and AA ain't making big FPE numbers.

I bought my AAs500 Etra FAC to shoot 30+fpe.
It does that really well. Used and at a very reasonable price.

I did crank the transfer throttle down one time to shoot wad cutters, very accurate. No added efficiency, but that’s not what the gun is for.

This weekend I will sit in patio furniture with it on a rest and watch for chipmunks that need 18 grains of lead.

I have had several AA rifles and they were all awesome. I now have my two favorites, an HFT500 and an S400 MPR FT and both are scary accurate. I have many top tier pcp rifles but keep going back to the two air arms. There's something satisfying about non regd guns. Just shoot the string and pick the sweet spot. The HFT is heavy by design so it's pretty much my benchrest rifle.

Went with the S510 Carbine FAC in .22 - This could be the most accurate and quiet gun in my arsenal. Gives my Air Wolf a run for the money for sure. The Starlings hate it. It is a real beauty!

If you rubbed a bit of RLO oil on that stock you might love it even more.

And remember to change the orings every 10 years & lube the breech seal maybe every month's. They do make an excelent utility.
