Air Arms S510 XS Carbine Vs Air Arms S510 XS Ultimate Sporter

I shot my buddy's Ultimate Sporter several times and I loved the accuracy. I was looking for a field/hunting rifle and started reading the forums about the S510 XS Carbine.

Many, many people were concerned that the ~3" shorter barrel would lower accuracy.

Well, I can tell you, at least at 55 yards, the Carbine is every bit as accurate even with its shorter barrel.

Nice shooting you did there. Shorter barrels do not affect accuracy. We do in the way that we shoot them.

The shorter barrel shouldn’t decrease accuracy. It will however, usually shoot at a lower velocity, not be as efficient and the air cylinder is quite a bit smaller. Also, the moderator is permanently attached. Both are beautiful guns, just kind of depends if you want a shorter platform or a higher shot count and don’t mind the length.

Both guns have the same length barrel. One is shrouded, the other has a shroud plus the Q-Tec. Barrels are the same underneath....

^^ @bsj -- interesting. I have the XS with the Q-Tec and yeah - the thing is quiet and lethally accurate. ( .22 ) BUT - it's also kind of long and I wouldn't mind it being a bit shorter. Wonder if I could pick up a shorter shroud - I'd still want a moderator on it though and . . . . that'd defeat the purpose? ( lol ) How much shorter is the Carbine's shroud - anyone know?

Hmm, It looks like there is a XS with a 4" shorter barrel. But my 'Carbines' aren't one of those...

I've got a S410HP Carbine from 2000, a S500XS super-lite from a few years ago with a shroud and long air tube and a S510XS Stealth Carbine with a Q-Tec from this year.

All of them have the exact same length 19" barrel. I thought the S500 had a longer barrel on it, but when I recently removed the shroud I found it was the same length as the S410 and the S510. The shroud on the S500 is 24" long. The S510 with the Q-Tec is 24.5".

The shroud on my S510 XS Carbine is 17.75" long.

That is not counting the length of the "thread protector" at the end of the shroud.
