Air escaping from compressor oil breather.

Is this normal or what. Had my compressor for about a month. Never had this problem. Compressor is the hastan lighting. When I shut the compressor off. I can hear hissing like a leak. I check all connection and they are good. I can hear the hissing coming from the oil breather. So to confirm it I put my hands on the holes on the breather it I can feel air coming out of it. Pressure on the gauge starts dropping. Is it normal for air to come out from the breather? It's also spitting out oil. Not much but enough to get oil all over the breather and it drips down the crank case.

Sounds like you have a piston ring that is worn allowing air pressure from the cylinder to bypass piston rings and pressurize the crank case. The air flow through the vent makes the oil migrate out of the crank case breather hole/ holes. I am sure they will tell you that some air and oil is normal leaking. The crank shaft slings oil to lubricate internals. Add air flow in crank case then you have a mess. You have to have non pressurized air in crank case for the compressor to lubricate properly. While the compressor is running it is normal to have a small pulse of air because of the piston going up and down displacing air in crank case but if you feel pressure or hear a hiss you probably have a piston ring problem. Statements made are based on information given. Hope this helps. MM

yup, when that happens to me I found a broken piston

Airs coming out of the breather holes when compressor is off. Example I plug the line and just fill the lines to 3000 psi. Without bleeding the line and just turn the compressor off. Air is coming out of the breather hole and not from the fittings. Length time do seem longer. Probably have to open the cylinder head and check the piston. Taking it apart is easy. Putting it back in working order, that's something else.

funny.. your thinking it will be hard to reassemble..a common fear no doubt..

sorry for your trouble..dive in and let us know...snap some pictures...but then again your under warranty..you might be sending it back .
