Tuning Air Max PP700

I never thought I would enjoy shooting a pistol PCP. I was wrong. Picked up a PP700 and it’s been pretty sweet. Although I was happy with its performance from the get go, in competition I notice a rising POI. As I shot it over the chrony it became evident as to why this was happening. The factory reg, although doing a pretty fair job, was not providing competition consistency. 

Ordered up a Huma and got it installed yesterday. In diving into the rig, I was astonished at how a very low cost PCP had so much quality. The thing is built very good. Disabled the factory reg and got the Huma dialed in. Consistency will not be an issue now. Whoa , this Huma takes things to another level.

Sweet little pistol Derrick, I had one for a short while. Would much rather have magazine fed than single shot in a pistol I guess?

my pp700 shot string is surprisingly really good and consistent. It is very sensitive to adjustment to regulator pressure and hammer spring. It likes light hammer spring but not too light and shot strings can get really good with no POI shift until regulator drops.

Nice! Mine is a .22 and producing almost 17 FPE. I shoot out to 50 yards, so I need some juice! I tuned mine for a good compromise to power vs shot count. I get 20 shots on a fill.

That’s really good for 17 FPS, I converted one of my pp700 to carbine with 16 inch barrel and that gets the extra juice(80fps more in 177) without pushing the gun too much and preserve the shot count. The farthest I’ve shot my PP700 is only 35 yards, need to stretch it out to 50 yards one day.

I’ve got a PP700 too. Was so impressed with it that I thought to spend some money on it to make it even better. The Huma reg is great with ESs of 6 to 7 FPS. I had the trigger polished and the gunsmith thought it wise to replace the original barrel with a Theoben that he had lying around. 

My goodness has this made a difference to an already sweet shooting pistol. Has become one of my favorites. I shoot mostly small metal silhouettes up to 50m with it. It groups under an inch at 50m in windless conditions if I do my part. I shot my personal best group at 50m with this pistol from all my air rifles which includes a few FXs and a Steyr.

This 3 shot group at 10m the day I got it back gave an early indication of what was to come. 

The 3 shot group at 50m. It took time to get there and I haven’t repeated this yet but it shoots with my other rifles at this distance in windless conditions. I really got lucky with this setup. Wish it would happen more often.

It likes the 7.3 gr JSBs the most.

Wow Kurt110, that looks and sounds terrific. I have a .22 LW barrel on mine and a .177 AA barrel also.

True, the factory barrel and reg a good. Adding some barrel length helps power and efficiency and you can’t argue with the performance a Huma brings.

The factory shroud isn’t all that effective. No other advantage. I actually have a bit longer LW barrel on mine currently.

Factory shroud helps a little bit the biggest benefit for me is the aground protect the barrel and POI. I’ve put it in my pack pack and have it not change POI vs my free floating barrel on my other pp700 without shroud would be very sensitive to bump To the barrel.

Good point. You must be rough and tumble with your pack At just 10-12 inches of barrel exposed, it seems it would take a big swack to throw it off.

Out of curiosity I did a 20 shot string and it definitely isn’t as good as OP’a shot string. My excuse is I’m shooting crosman 7.9 grain pellets straight out of tin in low power tune.

My Air Max has morphed into a carbine. Easy transition back and forth actually from pistol to carbine. Installed my .177 AA barrel and now shoot it the JSB 8.4s at 805 fps and the 10.3s at 750 fps. Cool little bit of kit

I retuned and swapped optics again!! I know, I have problems! Instead a red dot which I have hard time clearly seeing small targets at 15 yards(damn them 40 eyes!) I switched to a 1-6 scope and no target is safe within 30 yards! Also cranked up the hammer spring just a little and really happy with the shot string. I didn’t even bother with the whole string because it’s so consistent I got bored went onto zero in the scope instead.
