Yes, you can pay less for a lesser scope; but, a good scope just makes the gun more enjoyable.
Buy right and cry once!

For sure! I recommend a Hawke airmax.
Or get the HW 77 and use the open sights. I killed many squirrels with open sights and a single shot pre war Remington. 22 rimfire when I was younger. I loved using the .22 short.
